got told today that about 40% of people who have the cecum and valves removed develop Bile Induced Colonic Spams and that may be the cause of my recent discomfort. Makes sense that bile is just flooding into my colon after I eat with both valves removed in last years surgery. Is this a common issue for people here?

I have some problems in the ileocecal valve (but it wasn't removed by a surgery) and I have bile acid stools.
I use Questran Light, which helps me a lot with that discomfort.

I am not sure if this is exactly my issue or not, but yes, like Braveheart, I take Questran (I actually use the generic "light" version...seems to be more tolerable for me) for kind of the same reason... if I don't use it not only do I have increased watery loose stools, but they burn when they come out (like you ate a huge batch of major hot pepperoni or something...lol).

I have had my gallbladder removed, and my very first resection was right around that area where the valves would be located (you'd think I could find a report on exactly what I had been through, but no one seems to want to give up that info! LOL!)

It definitely makes sense though... would cause quite a bit of discomfort (or downright pain I am thinking!) if all that bile was dumping into your intestine...

Trying the Questran might be an idea... eating smaller meals more often (if you don't already) might help too, as your body would release less bile then....

Hope you find some relief! :)

the plan is to temporarily add entocort ontop of the existing Imuran prescription. I am being scheduled for a colonoscopy/polopectomy and resection site inspection in a week or two and then they will have a better idea whats up with the pain.

Is this questrion something we can just pickup at the drug store? Because yea Silver that water my poo chips are coming out in would probably eat a hole in concrete by the feel of it on my butt :yfaint:

LMAO @ "water my poo chips are coming out in..." that's frickin' funny!!

And..unfortunately, you need a script for it....

Because bile is an alkaline product, you could try to eat some more acidic foods (ie citrus fruits?) to try and counteract the "burning" effect... at least until you can get back to the doctor to ask him/her for a perscription....

Hopefully the other procedures go well and they can find some long term relief for you.

Sending "non-burny" thoughts... lol

Unfortunately it does happen to some. After surgery 7 years ago, it happened to me and I still have what I call acid diarrhea (bile acid diarrhea) I was a bit put off because no one told me prior to surgery that this would happen. The prescribed Questran does help but now I have a problem with narrowing again so I can't take it daily or my bowel gets plugged up.

Hey Kenny,

Roo has been left with short bowel syndrome after a Right Hemicolectomy. The reason for this is that the terminal ileum is responsible for the taking up of bile and retaking up of water. Therefore her lose watery stools are from the excess water and bile. Questran Lite certainly helps with this and it did work for Roo but she found too unpalatable, hopefully she may revisit as she becomes a little older.

Dusty. :)

Yea Kenny I started Prevalite(cholestramine) about a week after my surgery in July,it stopped that burn when you go and stools are pretty good. Also I think it will lower your LDL cholestrol.

started questran last week but couldnt handle the feeling of being sick for hours after it and not wanting to eat, so its loperamide this week fingers crossed itll get me out of the house lol, btw for anyone who's on questran in the uk, i have a full box of it here, i think its a hell of a waste to just dump it, as i asked at the hosp if its any use to someone, but they said it would be disposed of

omg! this must be what happened to me the other day...bile acid D. i have not had any surgeries but a few days ago i was in the bathroom with my normal daily D problems but on this one particular trip to the toilet i thought i was gonna die. nothing has ever burned sooo bad in my life, i thought i was on fire. it hurt so bad i began to feel faint. when i wiped and flushed it looked yellowish, like bile. thats what i told my mom when i described it but i was unaware that something like this was possible. could this happen to me again, i really dont ever want to feel that fire again!!! BTW i am diagnosed with crohn's colitis and have been flaring uncontrollably for 2 years.

hope you get it under control Lola. I got mine straightened out by dropping back to a very basic and digestible diet while taking my meds.

That yellow certainly sounds like what I had and yea it sure burned! It was happening within an hour of eating yummy tasty roasted meat.

Feeling much better now that I went back to poached chicken breast or salmon with plain rice or mashed potatoes. No spices or sauces.
