For the first time I am pretty sure I'm having an issue with bleeding. As I mentioned earlier this week I did a capsule endoscopy and was told the camera got stuck, which I'm sure has passed by now otherwise I'd be in much more pain.

That said, since I swallowed the camera I have noticed what appears to be blood (bright red a couple times) and some dark stool mixed in with what my poo normally looks like. I already have an appt with my GI for xrays on tuesday and results follow up on wednesday of next week. So I be worried between now and then?

I'm not feeling too much discomfort except for tonight but I had a large meal that included red meat for the first time .. in probably 6 months.

Try going on liquids for a little bit. It may help to soothe your intestines since it won't make thme work too much. Also if you are taking fish oil I would stop taking it as it thins the blood and cause more bleeding then normal. I wish you the best of luck.

Hey Drew.. Jeff makes some very good points.. As for the bleeding itself, take it from a very old hand... (or some other part of the human anatomy) that a person can really have a lot of blood come out of them AND still carry on.. seriously. I lost so much blood, welllll, I understand you being worried, but... if that's the only sign of a problem, then you can relax a bit.. If the blood loss escalates, or you really feel weak, dizzy, that sort of thing.. then head to the ER.. Otherwise, just keep an eye on it... The dark matter may be bleeding from higher up in the GI system... possibly from where/when the pill cam got stuck. The red is most likely from the colon, rectum or ailmentary track.. and it could be something as mild/common as hemmerhoids (even internal ones you may not be aware of).. The blood from either area may be the aftermath of the pillcam, or it could be from the large meal with the red meat.. first time in 6 months. that would actually make it almost a triple whammy.. Like, 1st, its' a "LARGE" meal... there's a strain to begin with.. 2nd, it's after your tract was probably in not the best of shape (pill cam thingy) AND you added red meat to your diet. My 3rd and final sort of 'what were you thinking' is, like.. welll, it's been 6 months. I know perfectly healthy (welll, sort of, they had to change their diet due to anemia).. veggans ... who hadn't eaten red meat in a long time.. Then ate it as their doctors told them they HAD to... and it knocked the living stuffing out of them.. IBD or not, if your GI tract has been away from red meat, just introduce it gradually... lightly... slowly.. ELSE all kinds of bad things are gonna happen.

Anyway, rest your gut, avoid anything (red meat, pits, stones, seeds, ruffage) that might inflame a freshly ulcerated area, and see what the doc says on Tue

Take care...

I wouldn't worry about the blood. Of course you should mention it but it is normal for us crohnies. Sucks that you had to take on this symptom too.
I mentioned to my GI doctor that I sometimes see blood and he said, "you're intitled". I thought that was such a funny response.
Usually the biggest concern with blood in the stool is the anemia. So, if you're worried about that they can test you.
Besides everyone needs a little color in their life!

Hi,

I no longer have Crohn's but suffered from it for a very long time.

When I had bleeding, I immediately went on to totally soft foods, that slid over the bowel, enabling it to heal. Absolutely, no lumps.

I also had lots of Metagenics bifidus, to provide good bacteria. Slippery elm was also very helpful.

I am totally free of Crohn's now. The reason is that I had a heavy metal hair and saliva analysis which found that I was saturated with Mercury from my teeth fillings.

I've had the fillings removed and have been on a strong detox since.

It is now widely recognized that Crohn's and mercury toxicity are linked.

xx Eve
