blood and mucus

Hi guys,
Suddenly I have some bloody mucus going on. I have never had blood before and have an apt for Monday. I know some of you have it, do you know what it means? Anything? I know I am flaring but this is new. Ideas?

Sorry to hear that. Screams flare to me. I got alot of that when I was having a bad flare. Glad you have an appt on Monday to get it sorted straight away.

Mucus means there's inflammation. Blood means you have an open wound somewhere. Whether the blood is from a fissure, ulcer (was why I had bleeding in the past), hemorrhoid etc. is unknown. Be sure to tell the doc about it even if it stops. They'll likely change your medication and/or run some tests (blood work, colonoscopy etc.) to find out the cause depending on your symptoms, how bad they are and how long they've lasted etc.

When I ask my IBD nurse about the mucus she always discounts it as being unimportant. She says the the intestines are a mucus membrane. And thats it.

I think I'd stop talking to her and speak to the GI instead or at the very least have her relay a message word for word if you can't speak with them directly. That's a symptom my GI docs have always wanted to know about. The color of the mucus is important too.

Argh! I agree with Crabby, don't talk to her.

Yes, the bowel is a mucous membrane and it does produce mucous but most people would never see it! If you have a enough mucous to be concerned, let alone have blood in it!, then that is NOT normal. As the others have said, even though it may be a new symptom this time, I would say it is confirming that you are in a flare.

Bloody stool

Sorry to hear that. I had mucus and bloddy stools ttroughout my bout with cd. Its typically an indication of a flare up and inflammation. Blood can be from various sources strarting from fisture or inflimation or ulceration. Are you bleeding a lot?
Advil will make things worst. Be sure to tell the doc about it even if it stops.

It has not been a lot of blood - but it was strange. Strange to me anyway. Dark and clotty and mixed in with the mucous. No blood today though so thats good -but everything else still sucks. Horrid D, pain, cramps, fatigue, joint pain the whole deal.
