blood clots... be forewarned!

Soooo, can internal hemi's cause blood clots in the stool? I've been having a flare up with my Crohns for about 2 months, just scheduled an appointment with my Dr., but today I keep having a large amount of blood in my really soft stool. Well, just a few minutes ago I noticed there were also small, about quarter size, clots in there. I have diverticulosis (sp?) (on my left side) but it's not hurting there. No pain other than a dull feeling on my lower right back. I called my GI back and the receptionist just didn't seem to understand my "I'm having different symptoms and didn't know if they would warrant an immediate visit" question. Ughhh.... Should I go to urgent care or just wait it out?

yes it does warrant getting them checked by the doc but I don't think you need to go to emergency unless it's a massive bleed accompanied by other symptoms, but it really depends on your current health staus. I also had / have the same thing on and off for over 3 months sometime no blood sometimes a trace and a few time more with clots. I mentioned it to the surgeon and he had a look and he said I had small heimorrhoidal tissue but nothing serious then I had a colonoscopy last week. The large intestine is completely fine but I have a few ulcers back at my resection site which he's taken biopsies of. I'm still not sure were the blood is coming from but I think he thought it was the heimerrhoid tissue. It coincides with a dull ache in my RLQ and if I have any D the bleeding is always worse. I hope this is of some help

Awesome! Thank you for your response. Fatigue is probably the only other symptom and I'm betting it they did a CBC right now, they'd find I'm anemic. Sooo, I'll go pick up some more iron and wait till my appointment next friday.

As long as you feel ok, but go to emergency if the bleeding gets worse or you have a fever etc or you think it's bad enough now I don't want to give you the wrong advice!!. Can you not phone your doc tomo and speak with him directly, we can do that here between certain times of the day which is good for emergencies like this??

"Large amounts of blood" always concern me. If it was jsut the clots, I would, like archie has mentioned, monitor and go to ER at the first sign of change.

However, like I say, "large" amounts of blood concern me. I am not sure how difficult this would be to do, but is it passible to get a sample (even in an old margerine or sour cream container or something) and take it to the ER and just ask a nurse about it? Explain the situation to her.

Sometimes (we) nurses hear a patient say "large amount" and think "yeah right, can't be that bad - she/he is oversensitve".... BUT for person experience as a patient, sometimes us patients who don't want to bother anyone UNDER estimate what is going on....

Or phone a doc or nurse and explain the situation CLEARLY to them and ask them if they would be willling to look at a sample.......
