I'm going for a blood transfusion (2 units) for in the morning 8:00. I started the steroids in hopes to slow down the bleeding but hasn't happened yet.

In a few weeks my hematocrit went from 34 to 27 (over 3 units). Hemoglobin is 9. I have heart condition. My cardiologist never wants my levels under 30/10 my heart starts throwing PVCs (bigeminy), BP drops and everything just goes fluey

Last week when I went to 29 they wanted to transfuse but the GI dr said wait to see what steroids did. When it continued dropping my Cardiologist said heart trumps GI and give me a transfusion.

I received a shot yesterday from the hematologist to make my bone marrow produce more blood.

I’m looking forward to having energy! Just in time –I will have our 4 youngest boys and 4 grandsons and 2 nephews all under under age 10 coming for the holidays–No time for anemia!

Sorry to hear you're going through a rough time with all of your levels, Robin. Good luck with the blood transfusion, hope it helps sort this problem for you! Feel better soon!

I hope you feel better soon, I had to be rushed to the hospital in and out of consciousness turned out my hemaglobin was in the 5's. The ER Dr. said I would be dead if I wouldn't had been in such good shape and my body had started adjusting to it. I was always tired and would fatigue very easy. After 4 units of blood they got me up in the high 10's which they figured I would be ok to produce more. I felt like a new man after the transfussion, people couldn't believe my skin looked tan and not pale anymore. Since then I have been going back down hill again and my blood test last week has my hemoglobin at 9.2. I was on perdnisone the whole time as well as liquid iron. Have a great holiday and enjoy that new blood.

haha love the photo too! imagine THAT in your christmas stockin!

i had my first blood transfusion a couple weeks ago. only 1 unit for me though. i didnt really notice any immediate boost in energy the next day, but i think it might be cause my other symptoms are acting up so much, im tired regardless of the anemia.
now i get a weekly iron infusion. my hemoglobin is rising, just very slowly it seems.

hope all goes well in the morning. mine was pretty relaxing, ate a sandwich and watched some tv :) lol good luck!

I LOVED my blood transfusions (had two in late 2007 and early 2008). One time my doctor gave me two units right before my exams in my first semester of law school to "perk me up." I think its the only reason I did well.

Luckily my iron levels have balanced out a little bit now (still anemic but not SEVERELY anemic like I was then).
