Doing some research for on what to eat and what not to eat... and I ran across many websites that say Broccoli is a Crohn's super food. It has to be cooked, but it helps keep the Crohn's controlled. Has any one heard this or had luck with broccoli in their diet?

I love fruit and vegies, but they don't always love me. Broccoli I have not had any problems with. It has to be cooked close to the mush stage though.

I eat loads of it, it has anti inflammatory properties.
Any other veg gives me the trots!

I love my broccoli, it's never caused me problems. Called "little trees" in our household :)

Broccoli definitely does NOT control my Crohn's. It gives me uncomfortable gas. Never had a problem with it before the Crohn's manifested though. I miss broccoli.

Thanks! I am looking for some healthy food alternatives for my daughter that will keep her feeling good and keep her crohn's controlled! She just tried broccoli and just loves it.

Broccoli only bothers me when not cooked. Another one I found was strawberries, too many and i curl up in the fetal position for a while.

my nutritionist at the hospital said broccoli and cauliflower are NO NOs. But it seems some people can take it. im not risking the pain as my pain when it comes is like a blowtorch through my guts for 3 days non stop, even endone (pill form of morphine) wont work when the pain comes.

My dietician said broccoli is usually okay, but be careful of cauliflower - which has been a problem for me for a few years even before I was diagnosed, and true to form I can't eat.

I've had some issues with broccoli since after my surgery - actually one of the only foods that has given me trouble. Cooked cauli -no issues. Go figure this crazy disease!

Broccoli has properties that make it a killer of E-Coli, and that is why it can help with Crohn's. The MAP bacteria secretes Mannose which in turn feeds E-Coli in the intestines. The Mannose is speculated by some to possibly mask the MAP bacteria from the immune system.

If E-Coli is causing trouble, then given some time Broccoli may help. If it is the MAP bacteria causing problems, it is not going to really help much with that.

Of course there are also other theories on what causes Crohn's symptoms, but I do subscribe to the above theory.
