Just curious whether we always have elevated C-Reactive protein levels with Crohn's? Or does it ever go back to normal?
3 weeks ago mine was 14 and last week it was 18.
I'm one of the lucky ones where blood tests in general are pretty reliable to tell how I'm going, and CRP is no exception. In my current drug induced remission I've been reliably in the normal range of 0-8 mg/L, and getting as low as 0.2, but has jumped to the 20s when things go wrong.
Further back, my highest ever result was 200, and results consistently over 100 when things were bad were not uncommon
My CRP only goes down between 0-3 when I'm on either Cyclosporin or MP6. As soon as I came off them after drug reactions, it jumped straight back up into the high 30's- mid 40's. I think when I'm not actively flaring I hover around 27-30 or so.
I'm one f the lucky ones, my bloodwork has been negative everytime it's been drawn. Even while in hospital in middle of crisis.... ugh tough cookie to crack i am!
I always wondered about this. Even when I was in remission, my CRP was constantly elevated. After a while, the doctors decided to leave it because I was in full clinical remission and gaining weight etc.
It makes me wonder if something was/is going on that I never realised. Of course, I'm always catching colds and getting cuts and scrapes, so that's probably it. :/
khurram333 a normal CRP is around 0-4. Although labs vary so there are different ranges but generally you want to be as close to 0 as possible. Anything above 0 shows that there's active inflammation going on somewhere in the body.
Edit: I've seen people mention having inflammation in the 300+ range. That's a high amount of inflammation.
Thanks for reply Well normal CRP is no CRP, Most experts believe that less than 1 mg/l is normal So a value of 3 may not be called normal Similarly for ESR it is less than 10 for men and 20 for woman I was just curious, as literature does support that these two combined can rule out 83-91% of IBD accurately, even at higher cut off value than I have mentioned
