ScienceDaily (Feb. 2, 2005) — Bethesda, Maryland (Feb. 1, 2005) – According to a study published today in the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the addition of popular bone building drugs to calcium and vitamin D therapy to treat bone loss associated with Crohn's disease is not beneficial. Moreover, the study shows that calcium and vitamin D treatment alone can improve bone mineral density (BMD) in Crohn's patients by 3 to 4 percent per year.

yup i'm on calcium & vit D daily now... hopefully it will avoid me having to endure the bisphosphonate meds.

Seriously I have been drinking a gallon of milk each day. I just love it to death. I was hoping it would come in usefull at some point.

Bone building drugs produce denser bone, but it is weak bone. Do not use these unless you research it thoroughly.

Magnesium is another important mineral to add to the vitamin D and Calcium mix.
All three work better than two by themselves.

milk is a bad source of calcium and studies show it leads to osteoperosis, i dont drink it all but if you do, id suggest sparingly

The homogenation process renders much of the nutrition in milk unusable to the body according to some articles I have read.

I really do not know if it is true or not but it may be worth looking into it if you are trying to get nutrition from it.

I notice that GI's don't order the test. But if you have been on Prednisone for a while I suggest you ask him about it. This is what I did, and he referred me to a Bone doctor who did the BD scan as well as blood tests for Calcium and Vitamin D tests... She recommended i take Calcium and Vit D supplements as my BD scan showed normal level, but on the low side....
