Alright so ive lost a TON of weight since having Crohn's and I was thinking the other day about how 3500 calories= a pound but then I thought whats a pound for us lol (I know its still 3500) but how does our calorie consumption differ from everybody else's like what percentage of calories we consume actually gets absorbed into our body

Huh, I've been wondering the same thing. I think it depends on the activity of the disease, but even in remission, don't people with Crohn's still have absorption problems? Like how many calories do we need a day? Clearly the usual 1500-2000 calories just doesn't cut it, at least not for me.

What percentage gets absorbed will vary by individual even if one is healthy, add on illness and it depends where their disease is.

We definitely need to work harder and most of us probably require much more calories to thrive.

Because i eat alot and am still very skinny and ive started playing basketball so me exercising every day has made me start eating a ton

I wonder about this. My GP did a stool test and told me I have no problems with absorption. But my stomach doesn't empty properly so actually eating a normal amount of food is impossible, so I'm really underweight even though I eat lots of high calorie foods. I do no strenuous exercise, everyday I eat chocolate, butter, full fat milk, etc. (along with some lower-calorie healthy foods of course) and now Fortisips everyday as well. And my BMI is still around 12 or 13.

It depends on the type of calories you're consuming too. Carbohydrates, which should be the majority of your calories, get absorbed really well. Proteins and fat are a bit harder to absord if you have active crohn's disease, but people in remission shouldn't have too many issues absorbing them.

It's more B12 and iron that are issues in my experience.
