Hi there, i was watching a program lastnight about a guy who cleared his autoimmune disease through drinking vegetable/fruit juice and not eating anything. he would juice everything himself using celery, cucumbers, apples etc and drink cups throughout the day. I just want to know has anyone ever done this? and is it dangerous for someone with dodgy bowels to not eat hard food for 10days in a row?

Ive always been told i need to keep my bowels working, well if im only drinking juice then im worried i will have a relapse or a major flare up.

and can people with IBD handle all these jucied vegetables and fruits?

Any help will be much appreciated.. thanks.

Nicky

Hey Nicky! was the documentary fat sick and nearly dead? I loved that documentary. If you look in the Juicing forum there are a ton of people that juice and there are some "challenges " I am not sure exactly how it would affect someone with IBD to do it for an extended period of time, but juicing in general is very beneficial for everyone. The main thing is to make sure you are getting all of your nutrients. (protein may be hard to get in with juicing) you just have to do the research. Also, as it is an extreme diet, I would consult your physician and go based on their advice. I am going to copy and paste the link to the juicing forum as well as move this thread to the juicing forum because I think you could get some great advice in there. Hope all is well, it sounds like you are in remission now no?

I'm so glad you posted.I missed the prog.last night, but will watch it later "on demand".I Juice daily.Mostly veg.using carrots as a base, adding beets(Peeled) apples, pears, celery,cu,kale etc.I only juice once a day but would like to do more.My advice is START SLOWLY see if you can tolerate it,then increase. It won't hurt to replace one meal a day for a week or two at first. There is a helpful thread on the forum, and lots on the web.Good luck and keep us posted.

You have to keep in mind that both the people in the movie were hugely overweight and had a large amount of FAT to live off while they did their fast.
Also their condition did not affect their intestines so they had no problems with juice.
Juicing is an excellent way to get high quality nutrition, but may not be enough on it's own.

I would suggest that while they were on the juice fast they were not consuming the toxins [1] and carbohydrates [2] that may be behind IBD

If you don't have 30kg of fat to feed yourself during the fast you might want to try a diet that cuts out food toxins and carbohydrates while emphasising healthy fats and fresh vegetables [3]

Juice is great but it gives you the fruit without the fibre -- and some fibre is beneficial for people with Crohn's. On the plus side, it's a way to have some of the fruit and veggies you might like but might not be able to tolerate because of excessive fibre.

Juice is best as part of a meal, not a meal replacement. (It has virtually no protein, unless you're talking about soy milk or nut milks).
