Can someone with an IBD donate a kidney?

I know it probably isn't recommended, but it's very important to me to find the answer. My brother has an auto immune disease that is kidney related and his kidney function is currently at 10%. It has been slowly falling over the past year. He has dialysis 3 times a week, but needs a transplant. If I am a match then I would gladly donate for him, but before I start the process of finding out if I am a match I would like to find out if someone with IBD (currently diagnosed as colitis but my dr hasn't officially ruled out crohns) has ever done so and what the recovery and such was like for them. I still have more tests to make sure I don't have crohns, but since it hasn't been 100% ruled out finding information on donating if you have it would also help. I know going through a voluntary surgery probably won't ever be recommended, but honestly, I'd do it before I'd let anything happen to my little brother!
