I had surgery to remove a stricture, they found cancer in the transending colon and removed it. The surgeon feels he is 100% certain her got it all. I see the Oncologist this Friday.

Questions:

1. Has anyone else gone through something similar?

2. What type of Chemo are you or did you under go?

3. I have had Crohn's for over 30 years, what are the chances of Cancer coming back?

My surgery was about a month ago and still haven't put any weight back on. I do at least have an appetite. I thought I would have a little more energy than I do. I still get tired easily. Is this normal?

Thanks.....

Hi there,
Just wishing you a good recovery and hoping you feel better soon. I hope all goes well for you now. Best wishes.

I had precancerous dysplasia found doing a colonoscopy in my cecum. Did they just removed the part of your colon where the cancer was found? The reason I ask is because I was told risk of cancer developing in another part of my colon was very high and it was recommended that I have a total proctocolectomy because of the length of time I have had Crohn's. I researched this and everything thing suggested the same.

Have you got the pathology report back yet? That will tell if they got it all.

I had my surgery in March and a month later I was still very tired and had very little energy. I now almost 3 months postop and I'm just feeling I have the energy I had before surgery.

They removed the structure in my large colon and then a part of my small intestine and descending colon. The cancer was in my defending colon and they took 15 more biopsies which were negative. The surgeo n seems to think all of the cancer was removed. He wasn't sure what treatment I would get art wards but he never really gave me an indication if my chances of getting can er again was increased.

Another thing, did they remove lymph nodes doing your surgery. When I had my surgery they removed 22 of them. My surgeon told me ahead of time he was treating me as if I had cancer because there was a risk the precancerous dysplasia had converted to cancer by the time that had past before surgery. That was the reason he removed all those lymph nodes. Thankfully all was clears.

You may want to read up on the cancer risk of people who have had Crohn's as long as you have.

Back in March my surgeon removed an adnocarcinoma tumor in a perianal fistula. I was given a round of chemo and radiation before surgery and now I am gong through another round of chemo. My Oncologist is giving me a combination of Oxilaplatin and Xeloda.

Fortunately, the cancer was limited to one spot and all my lymph nodes were clear. I too have had CD for over 30 years. The fistulas were around for 15 of them.

Don't worry about your weight. It took me time to start gaining it back. I've put on 20 of 30 pounds since March. Your energy will return again soon. I still get winded, but I know it's conditioning. Something I did not have a lot of before.

Best to you.
