For some strange reason i just can't lay down and relax. This makes me having serious sleeping problem at night.Everytime i try to lay down on bed and relax,my stomach feels pain and bowl movement are coming. After i came back from restroom and try to sleep it happens again, this sometimes repeats in vicious cycle until morning.

I don't know wether this happens to UC or crohn, since my doctor cannot determind which disease i'm carrying. My inflammation happens at colon. But this is not the important part, what bothers me is that this weird symptom of relaxing and laying down, this results in serious insomnia which causing all of my other problems.

At day time actually i feels much better, when i'm sitting, standing or not relaxing, the disease does not bother me that much as it is when i'm relaxing.Because of this i can't even take a nap at lunch time, even if i did fell asleep, when i woke up the pain is unbearable.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, since i've never seen anyone mentioned it.

I would suggest you move your large meal of the day to either early in the morning or mid day, so you can get good digestion for the meals. A light dinner may help. Some hot ginger tea may help with the belly as well as a hot water bottle. It will help relax the stomach tissues. I would highly suggest belly rubs (circular, around belly button) to help get blood to the area and heal it. Do it as often as possible. You will hear gurgles, etc., which is a good sign. I was told to lie on my right side for digestion issues. However, I find it most comfortable on my belly, face down. A hot water bottle prior to bed and making sure I am completely warm helps as well. Very key to get good night's rest, so try to get yourself into a good sleep routine. Good luck!

i go through this often, for me if i sleep or lay on my right side i seem to have a few hours of rest . if i roll over to my back or especially my left side ill be back and forth all night with no rest.even the slightest bit of gas will seem like a major emergency and have to get back up . with me there is a place low in my descending colon that has alot of disease if any thing gets near there it will trigger a major pain or feeling of urgency.mickey mentioned a hot water bottle , i use a heating pad and it does help. good luck and try not to fight it much , it makes it worse for me . ill turn on the tv or get on my laptop for a few to try and distract myself . if i get pissed off cause i keep getting up , i never get to sleep....hang in there

when I was having trouble with sleep I asked my Dr. and he put me on Ativan because stress makes crohn's worse and lack of sleep. I am as yet undiagnosed right now, but my PCP thinks it is crohns. Ativan helps me sleep really well and deeply.
