Carageenan-free toothpaste?

I know David makes his own toothpaste and he may know of brands that don't contain it. Hopefully tagging will bring him by to comment

Most don't have carrageenan unless you're toothpaste shopping at Whole Foods. I do indeed make my own as I'm not a fan of most store bought brands. My ingredients are:

- 1 tablespoon baking soda (this neutralizes the acid created by the bad bacteria)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil - sesame oil is shown to control bad bacteria such as s. mutans as well as chlorhexadine according to this study.
- 1 teaspoon xylitol - has been shown to have a myriad of benefits for oral health
- 1 tsp water - otherwise the xylitol is gritty
- 3 drops organic peppermint oil - for flavor otherwise it tastes not so good.

Mix it up and store it in the fridge.

OK, thanks David. I must have picked up the wrong couple of tubes!

Most of the Sensodyne ones don't have Carageenan but be sure to check the ingredients to be sure.

My husband doesn't have IBD but, has a hard time brushing his teeth without throwing up. Makes me wonder if it's the carrageenan doing it. We'll use up what we've got and see what we can find without it.

Sometimes this board reminds me of the movie What About Bob. ;)

I occasionally wish that I had never begun to educate myself on everything from food additives to pesticides to various chemicals pervasive in our environment. Ignorance was much nicer, especially when you finally realize you can't completely get away from the stuff.

But then I look at my nearly 16 month old son and realize that it is my job as a parent to educate myself about these things so I can do everything I can to protect his physical, mental, and emotional health in an effort to provide him the fundamentals necessary to excel in this very difficult world.

Phobias? Mental illness? God, I wish that's what was wrong.

Every toothpaste I've ever used makes me feel awful - unfortunately it's made me hate brushing my teeth, which is not a great reaction.

My husband and I went to a new dentist last week. I asked a couple of the doctors there what they knew about carrageenan. Totally stumped them, but I left my piece of paper with the name on it and they were going to check it out. While we're waiting for a reply, we might invest in some sensodyne...
