What accomodations has your school made for you?

I'm going to UC Riverside this fall and I happened to snag a single dorm with a private bathroom:thumleft: I thought that I wanted a roomate my first year but I thought about it and *I* wouldn't want to deal with myself during a flare, plus going to the bathroom would be WAY embarassing, oh man. I'll also get to enroll for my classes early so that I can have all my classes in the afternoon (Because who wants to go to a 7am class feeling like crap?) OH! This is totally random but UCR has a $5,000 scholarship for a full-time student with Crohn's. HELLO, I'm right here!!! Haha, seriously how lucky is that?!

wow, sounds like things are really falling into place for you! good luck, and enjoy it. I hope your health is kind to you while your there, so you can take it all in.. worry free.. and good luck with the scholarship! sounds perfect.

wow thats great new, i would rather suffer alone too, good luck with the scolorship (((((hugs)))))

My mom went to the disability office while I was at orientation and the lady there got all excited and told her about it.

That is great news (about the accomodations, especially about the $$$).

My school is very open to helping me in anyway that they can, which will allow me to have the same advantage as everyone else. This has meant that I was able to receive all of my winter semester credits (except for one course where I will need to write the exam in december this year) even though I missed most classes, tests and presentations. I was able to write all my final examinations in the summer since I missed them during school, and I could have had double the amount of time on all of them. I was feeling better at this point though (surgery had already been done 2 months before) so I did not require the additional time, but I did take advantage of it once to write one test.

For the accomodations I require a doctor's note stating that the accomodation is something I require (for example: the need to write an exam alone, the need for extra time as I was on a liquid diet and was not in "normal" test writing forum mentally or physically).

What school do you go to, my school has been a pain in my ass (yes, thats two things i have a pain in the ass with:yfaint: lol) They dont help out with jack, i wrote my winter semester exams while i was in my fourth month of my first flare (bleeding, severe weight loss for a month, constant severe pain, blah blah, you all know the CD classic story) and was still undiagnosed, but i had a note from the ER that i was having some sort of gastro probs. Long story short i passed all my exams but one class i did bad and the exam dropped my mark to a 59 in the class. However i required a 60 to pass the class, and they wouldnt give it to me!!!!! They made me retake the course this summer for 1%!! My dean basically said "I am sorry to hear you are having medical issues however regulations are regulations and they apply to everyone sick or not" I felt like going back to school with a tire iron and beating his head in.....ya, lol

WHAT?!?! You have a DISABILITY, it's kinda the LAW to accomodate you. Where do you live?

Oh, I'm going to UC Riverside.

That is SO UNFAIR! 1% for anyone... but even with your special situation!?!?!?

York University btw (Schulich School of Business, but it seems like York as a whole is very accomodating).

Uh oh.
The NP didn't check any boxes on my disability sheet for school saying that a major life function was limited.
Bathroom? Sleeping? Hello?
I'll be pissed if she doesn't fix it. I'd like my accomodations, plz.

I am sure that a doctors note can solve anything, even if the mistake causes you some minor problems initially.

They have to allow you time to make up exams. Proved bathoom accompidations, private if available. I believe you can miss up to 90 days paid vacation without them using it against you as the famlies with disablity act I beleve its called.

Sorry if yo've posted about this already but its 5AM here in Virginina, I've been up since 12 in severe pain, ever after 1 fiorinal, 2 noco-10's, and 2 pec 10's also. The xanax is to hlep sleep but nope, thing so far, and its been almost 3 hours ago. Nice talking, posting thread to others that have IBD. Especially , this is a pretty much a great place for support for us Cronies.

Hm, so I got here and I'm in a single and I'm like, "Wheres my bathroom?". Then today I went into the single of the guy next to me and lo and behold, he has a private bath so I'm just like wtf. I'm going to disability tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do but I doubt it because he may need it more than I do.

that sux about the 1% and trust me i know, i was misdiadnosed for 3 or 4 years while i went to University of Arkansas, i didn`t get any services to help me out either
