Had colonscopy and hasn't shown anything there was ulcers and start but said that was down to prep back to square one they have taken five biopsy feeling really down all my symptoms point to ibd calportation test was extreamly high

Have you got the biopsy results back yet?

And just to clarify, they said ulcers at the start of the colonoscopy (beginning of your colon? or in the terminal ileum? I'm afraid I'm not clear on the location of the ulcers) were due to the prep? I haven't encountered that issue but perhaps someone else has!

I understand your frustration as I'm sure you had hopes that the colonscopy would lead to a diagnosis and treatment that would help you.

An extremely high fecal calprotectin test does suggest IBD and I would hope that your GI takes that into account and continues to investigate.

Have you had a follow up appointment with your consultant yet to discuss the results and where you go from here? :ghug:

I am a parent to two IBDers but do not have IBD myself. I recently had my colon cancer screening colonoscopy and they found ulcers they felt were due to prep and biopsies supported this theory.

A high fecal calprotectin result most definitely means something is going on. I am sorry I am not familiar with your symptoms but did they do an upper endoscopy. If they did, did they biopsy for Celiac. Some Celiac cases will have a high FC...not necessary but it could be a cause.

If they found nothing through endoscopy, I would be pushing for imaging of the small bowel as the scopes do not reach that far. Think pill cam, MRE and the like.

Don't let them stop until they find the cause of your symptoms and the high FC.

Good Luck!

hi in the terminal ileum but said that was due to the prep I'm fed up

Waiting for follow up hoping they try the treatment for crohns and see if it helps me could cry I have most of the symptoms been on sick since Feb they took biopsies' z

Well hopefully the biopsies will show something. I've never heard of prep causing ulcers in the ileum but I don't know for sure. Even if the endoscopy is normal that doesn't rule out inflammation in the small intestine that can't be reached. You'd need a pill cam or MRE to look at that area.

Sending hugs!

The biopsies might still confirm Crohn's and as crohnsinct and xmdmom said there could still be something going on in the small bowel and your high fecal calpro levels and symptoms warrant this further testing. I know it's not easy waiting but try to sit tight if you can and not worry too much until you get the full results and talk to the consultant. :ghug:

You probably have remembered correctly, 600 is high. I know I've seen people here have results over 1000, but I think 50 and under is normal. ( Someone please correct me if I'm wrong! ) I asked because faecal calprotectin can also be raised by some fairly mild causes of infammation, such as NSAIDs and acid reflux, but when these cause the inflammation, the faecal calprotectin result is lower than it typically is with IBD, maybe around 200. I'm not sure if something like that could cause your result of 600. 600 is quite high, so it may be more likely to indicate inflammation from IBD. Hopefully someone else knows more about it than I do and can give you a better idea of what it means.
