I need some advice?

I am 52 years old. Was diagnosed with chrohns when i was 7 years old. Had surgery when I was 12 and 21 years old and have Beemer somewhat ash to magic since the last surgery. In say somewhat asymptomatic because my only problem has been a rectal stricture that has been dilated via colonoscopy 8 times over the last 15 years. I have been able to manage the symptoms pretty well, but believe the disease has finally caught up to me. Went to cleveland clinic a month ago to have the stricture dilated. The biopsy showed indefinite dyplaysia and they recommended total colectomy. Went for a second opinion at university od Chicago and they agreed with Cleveland. Then went to mayo in Cleveland and said that they didn't think the cancer risk was songreat as to remove my entire colon and rectum

Instead they recommended a colorectal anastomosis. The rectal stricture is so tight that I am thinking of going forward with then surgery that would result in a temp colostomy.

I am looking for patients Who have undergone this surgery and want to know how their bowel function was after reconnecting the ostomy. Are you able to control bowel movements. Do you Suffer from incontinence

I can continue to deal with the stricture but want to know what your experience has been. Yar after reconnection

APPRECIATE ANY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES YOU ALL COULD RELATE

Boy you sure have been through a lot. Sorry I can't really help. I was hopeing that I was able to get a temp colostomy but ended up with a perm. but maybe someone else on the forum can help with the reconnecting part. Hang in there!

You might want to try posting this in the Surgery subforum as well. I'm very interested in the results, because some day, I'd like to be reversed.

However, you mention it's rectal. That is not going to be a big help luv. Once that goes.....well. Sadly, very few can be temporary that I've heard of.

Are you that afraid of a bag?? If you are, you may want to take a good look around this subforum, because I can assure you, we are living life very happily!

Time to update my condition.

Well, they did the surgery at mayo clinic. They were planning a resection so I could be connected later but found a tumor during surgery. In order to get good margins from the tumor, they had to remove part of sphincter.

After having a number of tests for possible incontinance, the doctors have said I would be completely incontinent if I were to be reconnected. So that's that.

I am stuck with an illeostomy. It's a loop now. Might have it converted to a permanent one but not now. I have had kidney problems now caused by scarring resulting from the radiation treatment. Having surgery to remove the blockage in ureter next week. :eek2:
