Our son has Crohn's. He is age 23, 5 yrs ago diagnosed. He's had it pretty good until this last week - bad flare-up and ER visit, in the hosp for 5 days.

The discussion of colostomy surgery someday came up. Does anyone know whether the pain, flare-ups, ER visits, etc. will stop after colostomy surgery?

Thanks for your input!

Unfortunately for crohns an ostomy isn't a cure like it can be with those who have colitis. The disease can attack anywhere from mouth to anus and pain, flares can still occur. It doesnt mean they will but it's not a fix.

Hi and welcome.

As previously posted its not a cure. Why are they discussing colostomy? Have meds failed? Would it be perminant or temporary?

Where's your son's disease? Is it in the colon, or has it spread to other parts? My Crohn's was in the colon and rectum and was severe. I felt IMMEDIATELY better after getting my ileostomy, but Crohn's can come back to other parts of my digestive system, so while I'm symptom free now, it's only because I've been lucky.
