Hello All!
I am on here in regards to my mother. My mother, younger sister and I all have been diganosed with Crohn's. All at different times in our lives and we are all completely different as to how this disease affects us my mom has unfourntately had the worst time with Crohn's. Especially in the past six months. I believein October she began experienceing some pain in the right lower quadrent of her body near her pelvic bone. She hasnt had any problems with her Crohn's since she swithed to a gluten free diet three yearsa ago and my beautiful brave strong mother has been thru breast caner and trouble with her tyyhroid before and during her diagnoses with Crohn's. She had gone to the doctor and had some test dones they had saw that she had a restricted area of her small intestine it was inflammed and smaller than the rest of her small intestine which was making the food particles when it moved thru kinda stretch out the area after that. The doctor told her to go on a soft foods diet she began eating stuff that would not be hard to digest. (There really isnt alot of options) About three months ago she started on the cimzia shots. She had to wait for a few months because she had been fighting off a cold and also had gone out of town about three weeks ago when she had thought the shots might have started working she began to have more pain in the area that I have mentioned above and was very tired and could not eat. She could not take her shots that wek and was admitted to the hospital over the weekend because she had an abscess in that area. They drained the area and although could not get much out of it and put her on antibotics she stayed in the hospital til that monday and was discharged to come home. Since then she has had a rough time She is very tired and lethargic just getting up and getting dressed is a chore and makes her very tired she is hardly eating and although her blood count is up a little 10.5 she is still not getting any better. She is going in for another CT scan on tuesday and is thinking that she will be having surgery the following week. My mom is 63 years old and although she has had alot of health problems in her life since she had changed her diet to gluten free she hasnt had ANY Problems until now. My question is has anyone had these kind of senarios before surgery?? How long does it take for recovery after surgery? At the current moment besides the restricted area she has two fistulas. Please if anyone has any information I would love to know anything. I am all for her having surgery if it will make her feel better. She has already been on Remicade and im assuming she will not be able to take the cimzia shots after she has surgery because of length of time being off of them. Thank you for your time.

I'm so sorry your mother and your family are going through this. Depending on the type of surgery it can take between 6-8 weeks to heal and get back to normal. She may be able to go back on Cimzia after surgery but there is a higher chance she will develop antibodies to the drug if off them for a while.
