When I was first diagnosed with Scoliosis, before my ortho gave up on helping me, he prescribed me gabapentin. Why would he? Everything I'm reading now (trying to find a better solution for my back pain other than advil) says that is for seizures and nerve pain.
He knew my back was keeping me up all night, and when he prescribed it to me he said it was a sedative to help me at night. Was he helping me misuse a prescription med?
I found the prescription in my cabinet, that's why I'm asking. Sleep is so hard to come by with the amount of pain my back add be in lately.

If your CNS is causing you to suffer pain drugs like this are often firstline choices. This was a completely reasonable prescription of the drug if he believes your CNS was the source of your pain.

It's used off label for many things because it can numb pain so that might be the logic behind why he prescribed it. I was prescribed it for neuropathy. Some use it for depression too.

Interesting. Thank you both!
When I was taking it I would fall asleep sitting up through out the day, thats why I stopped it, but I am reaching desperation now.
