I saw my consultant today - well actually the registrar which was quite beneficial as I do not like the actual consultant.

They are leaving me on 30mg Pred until after my holiday (going on Monday) although the registrar did ask if it was a "good idea" if i went:ybatty: - the consultant himself had ok'd it a month ago.

He refused to precsribe LDN saying that it has not had "many" good results.:depressed:

He is now stuck between Methotrexte and Infliximab - I have basically refused the Meth as i have already taken Aza and 6MP which both made me really ill and i do not want another drug in that family.

I have to go back on 31st August to see them and they will have had a meeting to decide which to go with.

Any opinions on which would be best ?

Remicade (infliximab) threw me straight into remission. If I find LDN to not work for me, I will most likely try the Remicade again. A lot of people have great success with Remicade. I used to be so afraid of the Remicade until my time came to take it, it's really not bad at all, and I noticed effects the next day.

That quick ?

WOW - I so need something to work that fast.

I had the chest x-ray today so that if they do go with it then i am ready - I think that will be the drug of choice (hope so anyway!!).

Any side effects ?

Thanks

FruitLoop,

I just had my fourth dose of Remicaide and I have to tell you, if it works for you it can work really fast. After my first couple, I felt great within a day or two. This last time they doubled my dose (the lower doses wore off too fast) and seriously I felt better the next day...not 100% better, but better. I also like it alot better because my doc has now taken me off all my other day to day pills.

I also haven't had any side effects with Remicaide. I can tell you that at your first doses they will start you off very slow to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction or anything (which are fairly rare).

Here's a site with the list of possible side effects (http://ibdcrohns.about.com/cs/prescriptiondrugs/p/medremicade.htm) but I have no idea how common they are.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Remicade is my miracle drug. I feel MUCH better within a day or two. I get a double dose every 6 weeks and have been taken off most of my meds!

I actually had remicade a few times but on my third infusion I developed serum sickness and I actually thought that I was having a stroke. I am now on Humira, I was told that Remicade and Humira are similar except Remicade is from a mouse antibody and Humira is from a Human antibody. I hope it works for you, I guess I was just one of the few who had an adverse reaction from it.

Yup, I've heard a lot of success stories with Remicade. More positives than negatives. I haven't heard about a lot of success with Imuran or 6mp on here, and Methotrxate has ungodly sides I guess. Is Humira available to you? I went into a great remission in 6 days on Humira. Unfortunately it only lasted 4 months, but it was a GREAT 4 months.

Yeah Pen - still every other week. I don't feel like every week would help me because I don't feel any better the day after the shot or any time really. The only thing I was thinking of trying was a double dose every other week (GI and insurance permission, of course). I am also thinking about Pred again, but I haven't been off of it that long. I hate to rely on it, then what happens when I stop??

Is Humira the only med your currently using? I didn't know there were other dosing posibilities for Crohn's disease. Gee I had a hard enough time getting my insurance to approve the bi-weekly injections.
