How do you all feel about corn products? A lot of them are low fiber but seem to have some grits and residue.

I'm not talking about actual corn as that's a no no for many of us with IBD. Just products using corn flour.

I get a little confused over what is meant by corn. I was eating sweetcorn from a can the other day and wondering whether it would be bad for my digestion as I don't do well with fibre, but then sweetcorn seems soft, so maybe it isn't bad. Does anyone find it causes them problems?

I eat a lot of cornflakes and, along with cereals made from rice, they are low fibre and so I get along with them better than bran and wheat based cereals.

Actual pieces of corn don't digest for me. They come out as they went in when looking at my stool. I think that would aggravate inflammation.

Id like to know this as well.
Corn kernels I was told to stay as far away from as possible. But corn flour or tortilla chips dont seem like they should be an issue.

Even with corn flour like products there seems to be some residue. I bought Entemann's corn muffins and spit it out due to the grittiness. It might be fine but I'm a little scared.

I dont eat it anymore as corn on the cob and popcorn are agony for me, and I do find that cornflakes cause pain as well.

For me it really varies. Sometimes I can eat tortilla chips and sometimes not - at times they go through me just fine, other times as I'm eating them my mouth will start to swell up a bit and then I'll get hit with gut cramps a little while later (at least that way I know, when my mouth starts swelling, I have to stop eating and reach for my heating pad!). I seem to be able to eat frosted flakes cereal (basically corn flakes but covered in sugar) any time, those never bother me - which is weird because it's basically sugar and corn, neither of which is usually easy on me. My mom once gave me some frozen pizza dough made from rice & corn flour, and that was awful on my system, I felt sick for several days after eating that. So for me it seems to vary product to product. In general I try to avoid corn products because it's usually just not worth the risk.

I eat corn made products and it doesn't really bother my stomach, but I notice it in the toilet the next day. It seems to vary day to day aswell. I have the same issue with carrots, potatoes and numerous other things somedays I just don't digest them.

I have not ever noticed a problem with corn/corn products. I actually ate a couple ears raw the other day with no issues. However, whenever I do eat corn/corn products I chew it up much longer than other foods, enough to where I feel silly. Saliva seems to be doing it's job in my case.
