Hello, I'm new here and have a few questions. I was diagnosed with Crohns in June of 2015. Shortly after I was put on diffferent medications, prednisone, asacol and so on. None helped. About a month or so after, I noticed a cough, I didn't think much of it, just thought it would go away. It has now been about 6 months or so and the cough has not gone away. I recently coughed up some blood, not a whole lot, but enough to kind of worry me. :/ I totally forgot to mention it to my doctor when I seen him last month. I started Humira in November. Things seem to have somewhat improved since starting it, except I still have pretty severe and dibilitating stomach pains and cramps that come and go throughout the day, pretty much the same as before starting Humira. I'm tired all the time, and could honestly probably sleep for days.. Been having severe headaches, also, worse than I've ever had in my life. That started two to three months ago and I've had about 4 or so, they're so dibilitating and painful.. :( Also, instead of going to the bathroom 20+ times a day, it has went down to about 10+. Is this normal? I'm not sure what "remission" is like, or when you know/if you know that a medication is working. I still feel pretty bad most days. Not quite sure how long it takes for Humira to work/when you know it is working, or if it will. I also noticed blood when I went to the bathroom a few times, not as severe as it was before starting Humira, but not sure if this is still normal? I also struggle with severe anemia. I was hospitalized a few months ago due to losing too much blood, and also having very low iron levels and so on. I had to have 3-4 blood transfusions as well as a few iron infusions, as well as being put on iron pills for a month after. I'm just very confused with all of this, not sure if the cough is something serious, or what it could be.. My GI is typically very busy with other patients, and setting up an appointment and getting to see him is usually a months wait if not longer. My old pcp is no longer here, so I no longer have one, usually I just see my GI for everything. I'm thinking about going to the hospital to get checked out. I'd just like to hear anyones opinion/thoughts, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much :)

Do you keep your GI informed of ongoing symptoms? Most GI offices have a GI nurse that you can report your symptoms to. I would definitely call back and make sure they know about the persistent cough. They may send you to your GP but it still needs to be addressed.

If nothing else scheduling another appt with the GI is an option. Make sure you write down all these symptoms so that you can report them to him and won't leave anything out.

It can take humira some time(up to 6 months for some but usually the schedule is adjusted if symptoms persist or labs are still showing problems) to be effective and even after that periodine the schedule may need to be adjusted to reach therapeutic levels.

The standard goal is deep, stable remission with mucosal healing. This means clinical remission which means no symptoms and clean labs, endoscopic remission which means visually clean scopes and histological remission which means biopsies are also clean.

If you have debilitating pain or persist in coughing up blood, or feel your issues are emergent then a trip to the ER should be considered.

Hi i have to agree with what clash has said. Dont leave it any longer get in touch with one or other of your doctors.Or go to the ER.
Best wishes đź’•
