Cramping

I am having a resection in June. I go through periods of constipation and then diarrhea. Both accompanied with pain/cramping. I never really have had pain that I couldn't deal with. I am on a low residue diet as it is, but am still experiencing the pain. I feel like the pain is my intestines. Has anyone found anything that works for the pain?

Codeine and Levsin don't seem to make a difference.

When I get crampy pain, I usually put my heating pad over my belly for awhile and that seems to calm things down somewhat. Taking a hot bath can help also. As far as meds, I'm not diagnosed yet so my doctors are really hesitant to give me anything for the pain, they just keep telling me "take Tylenol" (which I've told them does nothing).
