I've had a blocked nose for aslong as i could remember and just assumed it was normal for me.I've read that IBD's may affect your sinus so could this mean it's cause by inflammation? Also, when ever i bend over (regardless of duration) i feel a large amount of pressure building around my nose. I get pressure like headaches quite often also which feel like migraines and also make my eyes water.

Any information would be helpful, thank you.:)

No help but ive always had a blocked nose since i can remember. Not bad enough to go to the docs about but always need to keep tissue with me.

Used to use that vicks inhaler nasel stick when i was younger. (using tiger balm now as i got it cheap on holiday)

maybe a bowl full of hot water, bit of menthol or eucalyptus oil and a towel over it may help

I also use Vicks but it's been a long time since i've used it as i've gotten used to the blocked nose. It used to prevent me from sleeping as i couldn't breath properly but now i'm fine with it. Just curious as to what is causing it.

I will try the hot water trick. Thank you.

I don't have CD, I have Lymphocytic Colitis, but I have so much inflammation in my nose that I can often not breathe out of it. It's terrible :( One ENT wanted to do a rhinoplasty on me. I've been pondering trying to find a doctor that'll let me try this.

The same type of cells line the nose as the intestines (epithelial cells) so I'm not too surprised that many experience inflammation in their nose as well.

It could be related to Crohn's but perhaps you have chronic sinusitis that is quite independent of your Crohn's???

Steam inhalation ican help open the sinuses up and saline washouts when you are in the shower can be quite helpful.

Have tried anything in the past that helped?

The other cause could structural, like enlarged turbinates.

@DustyKat, as of right now i'm undiagnosed. I was just wondering in what way it could affect the Sinus. So far nothing in the past has helped my blocked nose, i get slight relief at night by applying vix when i was younger but lately i don't need it to sleep. I did have a weird nose bleed this morning though, i've not had one in a long time. I think i will schedule an appointment with my doctor and ask him about it. I believe i'm also becoming anaemic but i'm not sure.

Thank you both for your input.

I just was reading that rhinitis (inflammation of the nose) can be influenced by acid reflux and stuff. I had a runny/stuffy nose for weeks and went to my Dr. He said I had inflammation and gave a steroid nose spray...I guess steroids fix all inflammation. I think it could totally be related.

My husband also read that canker sores are caused by inflammation...something I have gotten my entire life. It's like the more you learn the more everything starts to tie together and make sense.

Oh I forgot to say, my nasal spray is awesome but want to get off it since I am trying to have a child so I looked up some other treatments. I am trying saline nasal sprays, hot tea at night (caffeine free) and breathing in moist hot air from a bowl. Working pretty good so far. At the worst times I take a nasal decongestant. You can also use a neti pot to help flush out the passages.

Since I've been diagnosed with CD ive had a few attacks of acute sinusitis as well. Dreadful pain facial neuralgia I would try anything to shift it. it is the only time that i take NSAIDS. I had a really bad chest inf before Xmas and the doc gave me strong antibiotics and that shifted it. The best thing was the steam but it had to be really hot and for ages. Hope u get some relief soon as I've def heard of a correlation between CD and sinusitis, I recon our mucus membranes just aren't working as efficiently and prone to chronic inflammation as it is an auto immune disease.

Dusty what and where can I get a saline washout for the shower? It sounds like it could be very useful if I get another attack. Thanks

What medication are you taking? I have sinus infections all the time but not from crohns but the immunosuppressive meds.

They are nothing special. Just snorting salty water! Hence why the shower is a good place to do it. You could buy some Normal Saline 0.9% if you wanted, otherwise just dissolve some normal table salt in warm water and sniff it up.

Dusty. :)

Just as a side note: Matt had awful breathing/sinus problems when he was younger, to the point that he snored at night. He had enlarged turbinates and allergies exacerbated the problem. He ended up having day surgery where they reduced the size of the turbinates and then he used a allergy spray when needed and that solved the problem.
