I noticed that my child with Crohn's has a bloated belly most of the time and it can be difficult to find clothing solutions.

The main problem is that pants don't really work because there is no waistline, and belts aren't much help. There is definitely a "plumbers crack" issue.

Right now we go for dresses about knee length and leggings (if they creep down a bit the dress covers our little Countess Crackula)!

So, not a serious thread but I'm wondering if anyone has a similar problem and has found any ingenious solutions.

We do lots of wind pants since dresses are not an option .
Elastic is easier on the tummy and arthritic fingers ;)

Yes, elastic bands in our house.
Her uniform skirt has a side zipper but I bought a size or two bigger and sewed it so it has more give.
Also my dearest mil sew 6 loose fitting dresses made for winter weather. She loves them!

Us too, but I find that some work and some don't. I have better luck with a flat front with back elastic staying up, but some all around elastic will work. REALLY high waisted with elastic all around can work.
Poor arthritic fingers on your guy. :( We're lucky we don't deal with that at this point in time.

Good idea to bust out a sewing machine, FW. I'm hopeless though, but maybe I can get her bigger sisters interested in making dresses.

I'm just glad she's not alone in living with the bloated tummy. I wasn't sure if it was common to Crohn's kids because usually I hear about the inability to gain weight and imagine the kids looking sickly.

Grace well get bloated from time to time, her issue is more the g-tube. She doesn't like anything or any one to touch it.:(
She's do for g-tube change. Not looking forward to that one.:ybatty:

A lot of our shops do a plus size kids range that tends to be looser fitting and elastic waistbands

My daughter's main problem is finding clothes long enough that fit her skinny waist. Leggings no longer work because they fall right off :(. She likes hoodies and long sweaters with sweats or other draw string exercise pants.

My son's belly is a bit distended too. As he's a boy, we might have fewer clothing issues, as guys tend to wear their jeans on their hips-under the bloated belly-anyway. For girls I'm thinking yoga pants/leggings with tunic tops, and loose dresses?

Jacqui and Carol - I don't know if this is helpful for you, and I know Jae is a girl, but JCPenney's Arizona brand jeans go up to a size 20 in boys and still have the adjustable elastic waist. They're the only brand I've been able to find with the length, yet adjustable waist for skinny kids.
