HI
My daughter just got a RX for Apriso-our ins does not cover all of it. I don't see much written about using it for Crohn's which she has more uses for UC. Has anyone used this med and is there something similar out there?

I am not totally sure, but I would call her GI doc and ask them. Tell them flat out your insurance does not cover it fully and are there other options.

Its an anti-inflammatory that's time release releases in the colon and general area. So if the Crohn's is affecting the colon or anywhere near the colon then it should also work for Crohn's as well as UC. I've heard of other people on this forum using it. Other names for it are 5-ASA and mesalazine (be sure to check if the insurance company will pay for the generic). Contact your GI and ask about Asacol which is similar (anti-inflammatory and time release for the colon area) but sometimes insurance companies won't pay for it either but there are always ways to get the insurance company to pay for it by asking the pharmacy to file a TAR (Treatment Authorization Request) form.

I take Apriso for Crohn's. It's very similar to Asacol, except you only take 4 pills once a day. With Asacol, it was 4 pills THREE times a day. Oh, and Apriso doesn't stain the toilet like Asacol does. I take it as a maintenance drug, although I really couldn't tell you how much it helps me anymore since I started the Cimzia.

I took 6 pills a day of Asacol and also didn't have problems with it staining the toilet. :p

I took like ungodly amounts of asacol, and saw them all come out whole into the toilet. Apriso sounds like a god send next to taking 12+ asacol. I guess at least mine didnt stain the loo, just dumped right to it LOL

I take 3 Asacol 3 times a day. Have been actually for 2.5 years. I've never had a problem with toilet stains. Yea, my urine is many different colors. I also take lots of vitamins though.

Cook, let your doctor know about it not being completely covered by your insurance. I've had doctors change meds based on insurance coverage. It shouldn't be a problem. And it shouldn't require an additional appointment. <3

Hi everyone
Thanks for sharing I will pass this info to my daughter, we are in the process of trying to get the makers of Apriso to give us a coupon for a discount, but I love that I can ask any questions to folks who are sharing the same difficulties and also gain strength from all of you.
Merry Christmas to all!

I use Apriso for Crohn's. It is a mesalamine which has been used for many many years to treat Crohn's patients.

Google Apriso and coupon and the website will come up. You print it out and bring it to pharmacy. I just used it last night actually and saved me $50.00
I'd post link, but this site is telling me I'm not allowed since i don't yet have 15 posts :).
