Brandon,
Hi, I've had Crohn's since I was 13, resection at 19, stricture removed repaired 5 years ago so I'm a veteran of 43 years.

I've been in remission for the past 15 years with the exception of a mild flare and a small spot just before the resection for the stricture.

I have a bit of osteoarthritis, not too bad. Asthma and GERD. I am blaming both of those on a gall bladder that bothered me for 4 years till they could find the tiny crystals that were torturing me. Now I have a small hiatal hernia and no valve left.

I have been on Nexium for two years, just went off of it. I had some scary side effects, the first I lost peripheral vision for a few hours, the next was like a mini stroke. The neurologist thought I had silent migranes. I had all the symptoms, there are a lot... I did some research and long term use of Nexium side effects are the same. When I stopped the Nexium the problems ended. However, I was given Tecta, after 10 days I stopped it too as I was starting to have some side effects there too. I think I will use it only when necessary. I am back on Zantac and Gaviscon for now. I am on a short list for a Nissen fundoplication to repair the hernia and construct a valve. Has anyone here had this proceedure? I'm not sure I want to go thru with it as the problems I could have after seem worse than the GERD. I may just go on a very strict diet for the rest of my life. I was before the remission so it won't be that difficult to return to it. I'd be interested in hearing your info on GERD and remedies. Currently I can't eat any raw veggies so am using greens powder in a smoothie to get the good stuff into my system. Hope to hear from you, this is a great support tool:thumright:

Hi there and welcome to the community :) It's great to have you here.

15 years of remission? That's wonderful, good for you!

I haven't seen anyone mention that procedure, but you may want to make a thread dedicated to it and see if anyone bites on that.

Again, welcome!

Hi - Welcome to the forum:)

Has anyone ever suggested raising the head of your bed to help you with the GERD?

Also, I was wondering where Manitoba is? Is Crohn's prevalent there or not very common?

Hi, yes my bed is raised on blocks about 5 inches. I never lie down after eating, eat after 8 pm etc etc, following all the rules...

Manitoba is in central Canada and this area has the highest rate of Crohn's in Canada.
