Hi there,

Hope this isnt rude posting a question my first time.

I had an MRE last week and the results were:

Within the mid sigmoid colon there is a soft6 tissue thickening. There is enhancement of this area on axial scans of the pelvis pre and post contrast.

I was diagnosed with Crohns and endometriosis in 2008. I have had Crohns in the terminal ileum and upper rectum before, but is no longer present in those areas.

Do you think the latest findings are consistent with crohns or endometriosis? If Crohns does this mean its stil active?

I know you guys arent 'medical professionals' and I'm due to see my gastro doc in a couple of weeks, but any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi B Baker, I'm so sorry you didn't get a response until now. I think you stumped us :(

What did the gastroenterologist end up saying? And how are you feeling?

If you are deficient in Iodine, then it likely is endometriosis.

If is is endometriosis then Lugols Iodine used in the proper dosage should get rid of it. Doctors no longer use this treatment for reasons not clear to me, but many in the alternative community do with good results. This treatment can also be used for PCOS, breast cysts etc.

You have to be careful with Iodine, but another option is to take some form of Kelp, as it contains a decent amount of Iodine.

Do some research to see if this is a possibility.

Good luck

Dan

Hi David the gi thinks I'm a puzzle (something you don't want to hear!!), but thinks its the crohns and wants to start me back on 100mg aza, I'm currently taking humira every other week. He also wanted to start me back on pred but dexa scan shows osteoporosis :frown:

He has also put me in to have a sigmoidoscopy in the next 6 weeks and if the aza doesn't help (it didn't before) he said humira weekly could be an option.

Thanks for asking :)

Hi Dan thats interesting about iodine, I suffered in the past with an overactive thyroid and for some reason I remember iodine being mentioned back then, I'll look into it, thanks :)

If memory serves me correctly some endometriosis has been linked to hypothyroidism, and an iodine deficiency can contribute to, or cause hypothyroidism.

Dan

Hmm... I'm not familiar with that. I understand the connection with iodine and hypothyroidism, but not endometriosis. Endo is strongly estrogen driven; get rid of estrogen and endometriosis dies off. There's more to it than that, but I've not heard of Lugol's getting rid of it. I'll have to read up on that.

Hi there,

Had the sigmoidoscopy yesterday and the nurse doing it said, the soft tissue thickening that had showed on the mri, was a vein!!

I have no idea what this means, anyone else have any ideas?

Shes sending the results to my GI to see what he thinks :confused2:

Why did a nurse do the sigmoidoscopy??? I assumed your gastro doc would do this test. How would a nurse even know what to look for????

As far as the vein, it could be a hemmroid..

Hey Ihurt have no idea why the doc didnt do it, the nurses always seem to do sigmoids and gi colonoscopy. She said he might want to do another one, to have a look!!! Hoping the photos will be enough.

I googled hemmorhoids but cant find anything about them being in the sigmoid region. They seem to always be around the rectum and anus!!

I hate all this waiting, I'd rather they didnt tell you anything until they know what it is and what it means. Ive been freaking myself out on the net and all that keeps coming up is something to do with portal hypertension!!

I'll just have to wait patiently, thanks for responding:)
