Hi My name is Carole and I was diagnosed with Crohns disease in 1974. They first thought I had Anorexia as I had lost about 6 stone in as many months. I went to my Consultant in 1979 and I asked if I could have a bag as I had no quality of life with 2 small children. I had an ileostomy done 2 weeks later. I had a few problems over the next few years when I had a resection and a few fistulaes and abcesses, but since 1996 I have been pretty good and don't take any meds as I don't have any symptons at the moment.

Hi Carole and welcome! I imagine it could have been difficult to get a diagnosis in the 70's, as it is still challenging today for many. But I am glad you finally got answers and was able to improve with an ileostomy.

I hope you continue to do well and remain symptom free!

Hi Carole,

You said you're in great health and it's great to hear a success story! Is there anything other than your bag that you do that seems to benefit you? I'm always curious to what people who are in remission do to maintain that or what they think helps them to maintain that so maybe I can try it too. Any little piece of advice can go along way here!

HI Carole, Welcome to the form i Have had crohn's for 21 years now was in remission for 15 years without any meds. It's nice to hear a good success story like yours to inspire us and the thinking of the one's who have crohn's that remission is achievable with the right diet and medication if your taking any. My crohn's has flared up again but i stick to a strict diet and i am back on medications again. Hopefully it will calm down soon and go back in remission again.:rosette2:
