Hello everyone, this is my first post here even though I have been reading for a while now!

After years of technically minor health issues (although they didn't feel minor to me at the time!), I was finally diagnosed with crohns disease (via a combination of MRI, ultrasound, and colonoscopy) a few months ago. However the unusual thing with my diagnosis is that I very rarely suffered from diarrhoea and still do not. The symptoms I had were:

Feeling extremely fatigued
Constant mild fever and very dehydrated despite drinking water constantly (which led to numerous tests for diabetes which always came back as normal)
Very noisy stomach- embarrassing to eat around people
Occasionally loose stools, though I never really thought too much of this because the other symptoms were far worse.
Dizziness and fainting most likely linked to the dehydration

Since the diagnosis I have been placed on entocort and do feel much better. However I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar story to me because I am feeling quite alone in my diagnosis given my symptoms do not seem to be normal for this disease.

I am wondering if it is possible that the disease can cause dehydration due to the bowel not absorbing water properly as opposed to diarrhoea?

Welcome to the forum. I am glad that you found this place but sorry you have this disease. I am also on Entocort presently. I hope that you find answers. I had a fistula and hemorrhoids before I knew I had the disease. Best to you. Keep us updated.

Symptoms can be very individual. There are a number of forum members that do not experience diarrhea. It depends on a number of factors including the location of the active disease. My son when diagnosed only had active disease at the ileocecal valve at the terminal ileum in the small bowel. He had night fevers, fatigue, anemia, mouth ulcers, abdominal pain (towards the end of dx). He did have loose stools here and there but not consistent diarrhea.

I hope the entocort continues to work for you and you find a long trouble free remission.

Hi my active disease was in the terminal ileum . I had pretty much constant diarrhea. . Keeping hydrated is important if you have the D or the C . So drink plenty either way. This disease manifests in many different ways n no two people suffer the exact same issues. So there is no real type/normal to fit into . wishing you the best of luck in geting bettet soon đź’•

Not just you. I hardly ever had diarrhoea; occasional loose stools but mostly I suffered from constipation. Even when I ultimately developed a stricture I still didn't get much. And yes my bowels would sound like a victorian drainage system.

I scoured every corner of the internet for information whilst I was waiting for diagnosis, but I dismissed Crohns for this reason: it didn't seem like my symptoms matched. I was quite surprised when the doctor said "Crohn's disease".

I think you're spot on with dehydration. Keep an eye on your urine colour: I'd always notice that when I had abdominal pain my urine would get darker and there'd be much less. I don't understand why as it's the large bowel that absorbs water and my disease was in the Terminal Ileum.
