Hi all
Have had Crohn's for almost 25 years with major drama between 2008 and 2010. But since mid-2010, I've been doing excellent. No real flare-ups or major symptoms. I am still thin but heavier than I have ever been.
The only complaint I have is sinus issues where I am constantly battling phlegm. I have been since mid-2011. I have congestion in my nasal cavities and post-nasal drip. An ENT told me I have a small mucus retention cyst and a partially deviated septum but both things are not enough to cause major problems. Yet I blow, flush, and cough up phlegm on a regular basis. Oddly enough, when I travel for work I notice my nasal cavities open right up at 35,000 ft and the mucus is not bothering me as much. I have no idea why.
Anyway, I have been wondering if dairy is playing a role here. I have read dairy products can make mucus worse due to casein in milk. On the other hand, studies suggest is doesn't play a role at all. But people swear that is not the case. :confused2:
Dairy products make up 800-1000 calories of my daily diet, which is almost 1/3 of my calorie intake. I absolutely NEED dairy products. I drink 2 Ensure shakes a day, high fat yogurt, milk in my cereal, occasional chocolate milk with lunches, cheese etc. I can not think of foods to substitute for dairy, primarily the Ensure shakes I have between meals, that will match in calories. I see my dietitian next month so I'll mention it to him. I also get much needed calcium from dairy.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
