dipentum

hi guys,:confused2:
just wanted to know if any of you have any experience with dpentum and encort, i have been put on dipentum 500mg 4 times a day and encort 3mg a day, inflamation of the illium showed up in colonoscopy and ct . awaiting on biopsy, the surgeon has put me on these meds untill i meet gi next week but said he is 99% sure that this is crohns, my symptoms at the moment are lots of trips to the toilet upto 6 or 7 a day, especially after eating, within 30 mins, i also have extreme tiredness which is killing me because i am always on the go with the kids and work etc, so this is very hard, also cramps in my tummy but they are not too bad at them moment, but they can get very bad at times, you should know my mum and sister also have crohns my mother has it since she was 18, my sister at 8 and myself now at 38. but they have had a lot of operations and were very ill with it. i hope i have caught mine early enough to maintain it.; i know how ill you can get:( so if any of you lovely people have any information for me i would be grateful.

hoping to hear from you soon,

your friend

Hey Sheila,

No experience with either med from my aspect as I always end up on prednisolone when my chest (asthma) or gut (crohns) kick off because one triggers the other in an inflammatory cycle they have discovered.

Am sure some of the others here will tell you their thoughts though.

Inflammation in the ileum and the pain (do you find its low down on your right side or travelling down your right side or in the middle below your stomach? These tend to be the areas involved pain wise when the ileum is involved.) you get approx 30mins after eating makes sense. Its something I get and its where I have crohns too. If you tend to eat quite quickly because you are always pressed for time etc try to consciously slow down, chew your food very well and dont jump up straight away after eating (my dietitian suggests sitting for 30mins after eating but that just isnt practical so I tend to make do with approx 10mins). Dont stand and eat. Choose foods that are easy to digest, ripe, cooked soft that sort of thing til things start to improve with the meds.

Alot of it is common sense and we live in such a fast paced life these days we just dont think about it.

I know my GI has also given me an antispasmodic drug called mebevrine (?sp) that reduces spasm in the gut and I take it 20mins before eating which has helped also.

Try some of the above suggestions first and give you meds a chance to kick in too before you look at something like that though.

Being under pressure running from A to B will also take its toll Sheila so look at your day and see if you can literally slow down the pace a bit. Try and plan things over several days and those things you cant see if you can juggle them better so you arent breaking your neck to get somewhere i.e kids from school.

There will enevitably be days that just go plain wrong but those basic principles will help in the long run. Information is power in relation to you improving you current state of health Sheila. Keep asking here and of your medics!

Am sure the others will have more comments.
