Despite taking a full iron tablet regimen (with B12 and Folate) for the last seven months, I can't get my iron levels up substantially to the point of normal. This too with adding a lot of iron-rich foods to my diet. My hemoglobin count, conversely, is out of whack. It just doesn't jive as far as my GP is concerned.

For the most part I feel much better these days. The gastric distress has largely stabilized (good days and bad, but not as bad as before). Eliminating gluten has helped, as well as quitting smoking. The anemia continues though. I had to quit Yoga (as about as non-strenuous a physical activity as here is) because I would almost pass out. I can't even bend over to tie a shoelace without getting dizzy.

GP thinks it's possibly a bone marrow auto-immune problem, but it's too early to say.

Needless to say, I'm really feeling down. The frustration level has gone past the point of anger. Four referrals (and seven months later) for a Gastroenterlogist and I'm still looking at a 10-14 month wait.

That really sucks GJG. But at least your stomach has calmed down some. I've been on a roller-coaster on that front.

I can't imagine having to wait that long to see a Gastro. We complain about the health care system here in the U.S., but that is one reason many of us are against socializing it. Still, when I was first hospitalized I didn't have insurance and couldn't even get a colonoscopy without the insurance. I got a job with insurance, but had to wait 3 months for it to be valid. It's good I wasn't diagnosed before that, because then I would have had to wait a year for professional treatment. If I had been unable to get a job with insurance, I don't know what I would have done. At least you'll get to see a Gastro eventually. Hopefully, you'll get the medicines you need in the meantime and help from your GP.

Have you tried the iron iv infusions? They even take a while to kick in I think, (if I remember what I read correctly), but a few people on here get them.
Sorry you're feeling crappy.

I'm sorry GJG, I know what you mean... the anemia seems like a neverending battle, even when I'm feeling good my counts are low. I would also say maybe try iron infusions.

Also, for the burning butt... Calmoseptine is nice. It takes the burn away and cools it.

Nice? REALLY??? Understatement of the century right there. I would be a very miserable girl without my Calmoseptine. Seriously GoJ -best butt cream EVER! Get some - you will NOT regret it.

Things are moving fast now. Been on the phone all morning.

I've been on the phone pestering the GI's receptionist and got an appointment for TOMORROW! I had my GP's receptionist fax my charts over. There was supposedly a "cancellation" but I think I forced the issue.

God damn it I feel better already....
I had my GP's fax my charts over.

WHAT?!???
I thought your appointment was in like 2013 or something!!
OMG! Make a list - don't forget ANYthing! Good luck!!!

I don't know if they will do this now that you're in - but I always make another appointment as I am leaving the office, 4 months down the road - or 2 if I am feeling crappy. Then I don't have to wait when I need an appointment.

GOOD LUCK!!
