I had a ct scan on Thursday requested by my primary care doc. He called today and said it looks like my partial obstruction is clearing up but said I have a lot of inflammation. I am having severe pain today that is unwavering. I don't know how long this is going to last or if I can make it till Monday to speak with my GI. I guess my question is do I go to the ER and what can they do if I have inflammation but not a blockage ? If I wait it out will it get worse ? I take 50mg aza daily and my primary doc said its not working my white cell count is high. Please help I don't know what I should do.

Hi Zeppy, I am sorry you are going through this. Does your clinic have a an after hours on call doc? I think (but am not sure) that ER would give you pain meds and possibly iv prednisone. If you are in that much pain you should go in. Good luck!

Hi, Cheri!

First off, don't hesitate to go to the ER any time things get to be more than you handle. It doesn't matter if you already know the cause of your pain.

First, the ER would most likely check to make sure your obstruction hasn't returned. That's the number one reason the ER is a good idea in times like this. Secondly, as Sailorluna said, they'll likely give you pain medication and IV steroids to calm things down.

Let us know how you're doing!

Thanks Sailorluna and SarahBear. I made it throgh the night without a trip to the ER . It was a very rough night though. I'm still in some pain but not nearly as much as last night. I had some chicken noodles for dinner and I guess they did not digest well. I'm going to have only liquids today and hopefully my Gi will see me tomorrow.

My after hours doc always just says to go to the ER if you can't wait till normal operating hours. So they are not much help.
