Do I need to follow a specific diet when in remission?

Hi,
I just need advice from people that have Crohn's. I got diagnosed last week, but am not sure what area is affected, and won't know until my follow up in October.
I believe that what I eat does not affect me (except lettuce sometimes).
When in remission I can eat anything I want, and I find when i eat bad food I feel better than when I eat healthy food.
When I flare up I cannot eat a thing because the pain is so bad that i vomit. Water will also make me vomit. I always end up in the hospital.
My question I guess is if I need to try different diets while in remission. And will what I eat be the cause of a flare up?
I am going to see a dietician soon because my parents are adament that I need to do this. But I would rather have advice from people that live through this, as opposed to someone that doesn't and is going by what they have learned in school. It is frustrating to read about diets in books and on the Internet because the opinions on diet can be very different.
Sorry to ramble.....any advice would be appreciated :)

There is no diet that keeps crohns in remission or works for everyone. Generally most of us avoid the sharp foods that can aggravate inflamed tissue like nuts, seeds, popcorn and high fiber foods. Other than that its trial and error for the individual. You may find keeping a food diary helps you. You mention healthy foods bother you? What kinds? Whole wheat products and anything high in fiber are going to be harder to digest which can explain why healthy foods make you feel worse.

When in remission, I notice that lettuce bothers me the most. I go to the bathroom during or right after eating it. Other than that, nuts, popcorn, fruit (even when I peel it), and corn will bother me sometime, and other times they won't. So its hit and miss. But I don't feel like they ever cause me to have a flare up. Just 3-5 visits to the bathroom. Sometime I would feel a bit of pain and pressure while going, but when I'm done the symptoms would be gone.
I guess it's best to just avoid these food now that I have a dx.

I think it's not often one food causes a flare I think it's a domino effect. You eat one bad thing, then another and your disease starts waking up.
