Hi all -

My brother just had his third surgery for a perianal abscess and was sent home with instructions for how to do the packing. He is anxious about the pain and doing the packing properly.

My question is, have any of you who are in the United States, had a visiting nurse do the initial packing after surgery?

Any recommendations for who we should call to obtain a visiting nurse? His GI doctor or surgeon? Health insurance company?

Thanks all!

ps I have crohn's as well.

I'm not in the US so can't help with regards to who to contact etc.
But I can't imagine having to do the packing myself. Firstly because it's such an awkward position and secondly, inflicting pain upon yourself is not easy!
I had nurses to do mine to start and then hubby done it. I've done it myself a few times, but only when the wound was shallow and it was just a case of sticking a little bit in lol xxx
