Hello to all! New member here. Been reading some of the posts. Everyone seems so helpful. I was diagnosed with Crohn's when I was in my mid-forties. My son was diagnosed when he was 14, ten years ago. While mine has gone into remission on its own, my son's is very aggressive and stubborn. He's been on remicade for 6 years. Infused at highest dose for his weight (114lbs at 6ft.tall) every 6 weeks. Has 4 weeks of feeling ok. Then fevers, fatigue and, of course, diarreha. Doctor is thinking about humira. We've been looking into the helminthic therapy (worms) treatment option. Have any of you or anyone you know had any experience with this type of therapy? The remicades, humira type drugs come with so many possible scary side effects! Thanks for reading this long post! :sign0085:

I've been on Humira now for almost 4 months now and I haven't experienced any scary side effects. Like you, I was terrified of starting Humira (it was also my first medication after being diagnosed besides Entcort). I try to remind myself that medical companies are required to list all the side effects so they don't get in trouble if someone experiences something. It doesn't mean everyone will. And you have to weigh the risk of possible side effects to how you will benefit from the medication in the long run. :) Check out the threads called Humira Club or Remicade Club for people's experiences with them.

I have been on both Humira and Remicade. Like Marisa said, they have to list everything that could happen. I never had anything happen to me on either one of these medicines. They are both great and helped me so much!

. . . . . Infused at highest dose for his weight (114lbs at 6ft.tall) every 6 weeks . . . . . . . .

I'm glad your crohn's is in remission and I really really hope you son gets sorted out asap. I think his weight is really emphasizing how significantly Malabsorption can effect young people with Crohn's.

Yup, I tried it and it put me in remission. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Thanks to each of you for your help. It's comforting to know we're not alone! The Humira Club was especially helpful. Sorry for my late reply. I went ahead on Tuesday aft and broke my hand. Sheer foolishness. One hand typing stinks! My son meets with the doc next Tuesday to discuss strategy against this stubborn disease. Not sure what she'll suggest. Do any of you know someone who has tried the worm (helminthic) therapy? He/we are seriously considering it. :confused2:
