For those who have IBD do you also have IBS? How do you know when its one or the other? Also what treatments do you use to manage it?

I didnt know about this until my last obstruction at halloween but my IBD nurse called and when talking about my food intolerances she said she thinks i also have IBS and lactose intolerance. She thinks some of my cramp type pains are IBS, but my bad pains are IBD. She said it is common. I tried buscopan before, did nothing so im only on IBD meds now (azathioprine and tramadol).

The year before last, my doctor thought I had IBS as well as the Crohns Disease. They prescribed Levsin for me.

Although not diagnosed with IBS I'm sure I have it as well as crohns.I have daily digestive problems but have more intense ones when in a flare.....The gift that keeps on giving hahaha

I have Crohn's and IBS. I sometimes have difficulty telling the difference between the symptoms of the two, as for me they can be very similar. In my experience, it seems as though the two are heavily correlated but there are differences in what causes my symptoms to flare. For me, the symptoms of IBS are exacerbated by stress and anxiety. Sometimes, dealing with my anxiety and trying to ground myself makes a huge difference in managing IBS symptoms. My doctor struggles with the difference between the two as well. Gastrointestinal pandemonium.

I don't have IBS. My gut is super sensitive to fermentable foods but I don't have stress-related gut issues though. In a Crohn's flare low-fodmap (IBS diet) is at least a tiny bit of a help for me. Otherwise I just have to avoid raw food, harder to digest food etc. My dad has IBS but not IBD, so I see quite some differences despite that critical view on food ("What can I tolerate?") as a common aspect.
