ive made a different thread but wanted to know,

will infliximab work for perianal crohns?

i have a few small fissures/minor tears, 1 big deep fissure (i think i do anyway), a lot of small skin tags (from the opening to 1cm inside the anus where ive looked), and 1 big skin tag that looks like a kidney bean on the outside. it also looks like 2/3 more are forming.

the worst part is the throbbing, and occasional burning.

ive a pelvic mri this week, and a consultation for infliximab in a month (which im trying to bring forward).

how likely is it that infliximab will clear this up? and why is my consultant being difficult in giving it to me? im from the UK and on the nhs.

It worked pretty well for mine, but it did take some time to become completely effective. As to why the delay? It's really expensive and I believe protocols for it require that the doctors try just about all other approaches first. Hang in - I needed to wait half a year for my system here in Canada to approve it for me. My crohn's has essentially gone into remission, and I know many others here have had great success with it. It is really worth the try.

Took me three months to get approval and there were a lot of hoops to jump through to get it. Is it the UK that uses some sort of forumula to determine whether you will be approved for Remicade, or was that Austrailia. Be patient.

Yes, it works for perianal Crohns. We are now in remission with Remicade and Seton in fistula. Only negative now is her liver enzymes are messed up and gallbladder pain. Fix one thing and something else pops up. Frustrating. You need the drugs, but there are so many side effects to deal with.

My appointment is next week. In the mean time antibiotics and movicol are giving relief. Hopefully it doesnt cause me any side effects. I have yet to read about any major ones.

Will report back.
