I know we have a thread for safe/unsafe foods, but is there anybody on here that it seems can eat anything and be fine? I grew up my whole life with my doctor telling me not to drink milk/dairy because it would set off my crohn's but lately I've been getting into shape and trying to bulk up so I thought I would try milk. After all, I've been eating ice cream my whole life, what's the worst that could happen?

Well let me tell you something...EWW! Lol Milk is so grosse! I use it for my protien shakes and its not too bad, but by itself, never again. I always grew up using juice in my cereal. Its delicious. Fruit Punch with fruit loops, Orange juice with cheerios, etc.

So it got me thinking, does anybody else seem to not have problems after eating certain things? It seems I can eat anything with no problems. I just thought that was kind of weird after reading all of the things some people can't eat.

Milk is disgusting. Unless it's with cookies. Then, it cleanses the palette. But otherwise, it's bitter and yucky. JUICE IN CEREAL. OMG. I have to try this.

I've only ever had one remission, but I could eat anything fine. Except popcorn. That still bothered me.

You should see the looks I got with juice in cereal. It's amazing. For the people that use milk in cereal, you know regardless, the cereal gets soft, and if too long, gets soggy, but if you learn to mix right flavours, it's really good.

Cheerios can go with orange juice, peach juice, and other orange coloured juices for the most part
Shreddies, Simply AMAZING with orange juice
Fruit Loops, tastes best with Fruit Punch, but it isnt terrible with Grape juice either

Stuff like that. I definately think you should try it.

I used to put tap water in my cereal as a child. I loved to mix cornflakes and sugar with water and let it get a bit soggy before eating it in huge mouthfuls.

As for being able to eat anything, it seems I can. I was very careful with what I ate as I was getting over flaring but since I have been symptom free, it seems nothing bothers me. Not even popcorn!

But I still stay clear of plain milk. Not because it bothers my stomach but because it tastes disgusting! x

I love chocolate milk too even, there's just something about the taste and texture of white milk. Vickie, popcorn doesn't seem to bother me either. I'm currently mowing down on some Crunch N' Munch lol

I agree with muppet, your cows must produce different milk than the cows in the U.S. do. Whole milk is yummy, it’s like dessert. I love having a big glass right before bed.

I've been able to eat pretty much everything over my time with Crohn's. I'm a vegetarian, but before I was veggie I couldn't eat beef - the only thing that would set me off with stomach ache.
I'm having a bad flare at the moment, and diary is making me really bad, so I decided to cut it out, and have cut it out for 4 days so far and have had only v mild stomach ache.

So last night I decided to put it to the test and see if it was just a placebo effect, and I ate some clotted cream (which was heavenly), but I had the worst stomach ache, it woke me up in the middle of the night.
So I think I'm going to steer clear of dairy until I'm under control with my Crohn's a bit.

Does anyone else have a similar thing with all dairy foods?

xxxx

Yes, dairy foods definitely bother both me and my daughter.

Whenever I hear somebody say that they can "eat anything" with their Crohn's, my initial suspicion is always that they just haven't connected the dots yet. It's QUITE difficult.

Well, when I was in remission for 6 years I could eat anything, I know some people will find that hard to believe, but I could. I never even thought about Crohn's when eating.
But it's a different story now I'm having a flare up, need to be very careful with what I eat, unfortunately. And dairy seems to be angering my flareup even more so just going to cut it out, thanks for replying and letting me know it affects you both, too. Do you use substitutes? I'm currently having rice milk instead of cows milk and might try some vegan cheese

xxx

My Crohn's can tolerate small amounts of skim milk. I think it's the fat content my belly doesn't like. Thankfully, I hate milk as well! It's pretty gross.. especially whole milk. I've noticed small portions of any food is way easier to tolerate. (This is difficult to do sometimes!)

mmm... Timmy's! LOL Generally my son can eat anything... but had a Timmy's breakfast sandwich with sausage and cheese and a large chocolate milk a few days ago!! Wasn't feeling too well that day! But, if I let him, I think he'd do it again for the sandwich and milk!

He loves milk... hoping he's not starting to have sensitivities to it... (just to greasy breakfast sandwiches!)

Milk? Ewwwwwww do you want to poison me? Only by reading the thread makes me wanna puke.

I always hated milk, even pre - Crohns. I like cheese (especially feta cheese) but milk and yoghourt? Nooo effing way.

My second flare after the initial one was trigered by a combination of Almonds, a peach, and a glass of cold chocolate milk (All within two days what was I thinking?)

My doctor told me that a huge percentage of people with C & UC also develop lactose intolerant issues, so there is certainly a connection there for a lot of people. This is a pity for me because I love dairy, or at least use to. The pain it causes me is just not worth the effort of eating it. I was at a food fair the other day and was offered skim milk yogurt. When I said no thanks I am lactose intolerant the seller laughed and said there was no lactose in yogurt. So like an idiot decided to try a small tub. I had terrible cramping afterwards. But my biggest pain comes from grains like wheat, so I had to wave bye bye to pasta, bread, cookies, cereals, and other yummy baked goods.
