drinking milk and BM's

I've been thinking lately. For those of you who drink milk how do you think it affects your bm's? When I was drinking protein shakes I used milk to add nutritional value and while doing so I noticed my bm's got less frequent and more formed. Is there anybody else who noticed a difference when starting or stopping drinking milk? (Positive or negative)

I don't drink milk, and quite frankly I think its gross but I was drinking it last year when using the protein shakes (like I said to add nutrition) so before and after that I haven't drank milk. After stopping, the bm's went back to being more frequent and not solid.

For those who don't know my story, I manage my crohns with just diet, I've been in remission for awhile now and I only "suffer" from diarrhea, although I dont consider that anything to complain about giving the circumstances.

I should also add that I did not notice any bad side effects of drinking milk, and I'm also taking into consideration the negatives of not drinking milk and bone problems.

I personally don't drink a lot of milk, I also think it's gross. It causes insane bloating for me. My 9 yr old son (some bowel problems, keeping my eye out for IBD) drinks A LOT of milk, we have to limit his dairy intake. When he has too much dairy, he gets "the bad poops." (his phrase) He also complains of sharp pains near his belly button.

I rarely have bm's that are formed at all, it is mostly diarrhea. Milk only makes it worse. I already have some bone density loss from high doses of prednisone when I was younger. Calcium supplements are a better way to go given the fact that my gut and milk aren't friends.

When flaring milk is a big no no for me, but when not flaring I love the stuff, I wouldn't noticed any difference regarding my BM's tbh.

Sarah, I'm the same way. This year marks 20 years for having crohn's and I only have watery BM's. I also have bone density problems because of high doses of long term prednisone usage so one of my concerns is facing bone problems when I get older. I have also thought about calcium supplements but was wondering A. if milk has any extra advantages and B. whether or not the milk was the factor making my BM's better.

I doubt the milk would be contributing to better BM. Was there any form of soluble fiber in your shakes? That is more what I would think could improve that. I would rather try drinking soy or almond milk or something like that or take supplements

I dont like milk but use it with cereal only and that seems fine. I have noticed tho way back when I was drinking protein shakes during a flare it made my flare WORSE.

I drink Almond Breeze milk. I find cow's milk gross. If I accidentally get some, it's ugly. Dog farts, followed by it trying to get out of my body through my arse as quickly as possible.

Oh wow, so quite the opposite! I did know milk has "mucus (sp?) Ingredients" so I thought it would be odd to make it formed, but like we all know, we all get affected differently. I'd have to look at the shakes and see what kind of fiber they have.

I don't like milk, and only drink it in things like coffee or ingredients that call for milk but I thought I'd deal with the taste if people notice it helps their bm's. I guess I'll stick to calcium supplements lol.

I guess I'll stick to calcium supplements lol.
I've read quite a bit about milk and how it is a complete aberration to still drink it. Reading that you'd be convinced about the fact your calcium supplement, even if they are synthetic , are probably healthier than this dear cow milk.

I just find it unfortunate that by this same logic I should avoid cheese... yogourt... ice cream... cheese cake... grated meals... and all these yummy foods that are... not good for my tummy, and joints and cells in general lol. Aww sad sad world

Why would anyone avoid ice cream and cheesecake? Those are some of the worlds greatest things! Lol

Everyone always thinks I'm weird because I don't like cheese by itself too lol. I like it on cheeseburgers, tacos, and grated over some foods but everything thinks its very odd I would never just go in the fridge and get a piece of cheese. Eww!

I too have constant diarrhea. I don't know if milk that has soy almond ect would be better, but id like to reduce lactose and eventually be fully on the sc diet, as a lot of people with crohns say it's good for them. :)

Soy and Almond milk should not bring you much issues normally. It's easier to digest for our system than the cow milk is, because of the nature of the lactose molecule. Casein, which is present in the protein of cow milk is also to avoid for certain of us.

Just got out of the hospital after 11 days and being diagnosed with Crohns. My Gastro Dr. told me to stay off dairy for 4 months but I could use lactaid milk in my coffee.

RX Presently - Enecort, Asacol. Starting Remicade when Insurance approves.

Yeah a lot of doctors will say to stay away from dairy but it doesn't even affect some people with crohns. As much as I don't drink milk, I have it in my coffee and other things without any problems.
