Hi my name is Jen and this is my first post, although I have been silently checking out this forum for a while  Anyway I am about to have my first resection surgery soon and was wondering when I will be able to drive again afterwards? Also my surgeon thinks that he can do it laproscopic so I was just wandering if he does do it that way how much bed rest will I need after, basically when will I be mobile again, I have a ten year old to take care of. I have had a c-section before that was done the old way from the belly button down and that was very painful and I was down for a while. So just curious how different laproscopic would be?

My last resection was laproscopic.I drove 12 weeks after the op'.It took longer than i expected as i developed internal infection which put me back in hospital.

I wish you every success with your operation

Hi Jenz - Everyone is different, but with laparascopic surgery, you'll probably be out of the driver's seat for at least 3 weeks. Expect at least double that if they have to open you up. I always err on the side of caution, better safe than sorry. You'd be surprised how many stomach muscles you use when slamming on the brakes if you need to!

Good luck with your surgery! - Amy

I had this done laparascopically recently. I was driving within 3 weeks. i was told that I could drive once I was off the pain meds, which were narcotics. So a smooth surgery and quick recovery (or at least one that you can switch to ibuprofen instead of a narcotic), you could be driving in less time. Good luck!

My daughter just had open surgery and we were told she could drive in 2 weeks (which was after being in the hospital for 1 week)...so you can probably safely assume 3 weeks. (as long as your off the narcotics !)
:goodluck:

Make sure your off of narcotics, if you get in an accident with that in your system you will be arrested! I had an open surgery and didn't drive for 4 weeks. I am 8 weeks post and back to work today!

3 weeks. It might be easier if you drive an auto but When I drove stick pushing in the clutch really stretched my abdomen and used those muscles too much which made it harder. If you're driving around to work and such then you shouldn't need the pain killers so that's not a problem.

hey jen.my surgeon told me no driving for at least 2mnths primeraly due to the fact if you were in an accident you would rupture your wounds and prob bleed out.plus your insurance company wouldnt be to happy...
