My little farm girl will be getting an barium enema sometime this week or next.

My question is, does this test show enough clarity of the colon to help the GI tell what's happening?

Did this test help you and your GI?

Thanks a bunch:hug:

I've had that test done one time. I was 9 and cried during the whole thing (although my sister was 11 when she had it done and said it wasn't as bad as I said it was). Was definitely the worst test I ever had done (dunno if they sedate people these days but I think I should have been, there was a fair number of people holding me down). Its much like the small bowel follow through yet instead of drinking it it gets pumped in the other way. It'll show inflammation, scar tissue, ulcers etc just like the sbft but only in the colon.

An MRE or maybe even an MRI might show more and have always been more pleasant for me anyway.

Edit: At the time (remember this was 21 years ago) my mom wasn't allowed in the room during the procedure because they feared she would get in the way (or try to stop the procedure I think due to the screaming and crying).
