entocort

Those who have been on it. What was the longest period of time on it?

I saw my GI yesterday and we are once again trying to taper me off after almost 2 yrs on. Everytime i have tried in the past I start to flare. He bumped my remicade to every 6 wks hoping that would help. If I can not go off then I will have to start 6mp w/ remicade.

I was on it 7 years after my first surgery it was a godsend. But some people do well on it alone and some a combination. 6mp is an immune suppressor to make the Remicade work better. Good luck.

Thanks! I know my Dr doesnt like to be on it long term. He feels 2 yrs is too long to be on the entocort. Hopefully I can taper off without issue!

Entocort is mild, there should be no problem tapering but do it slow, dont be in a rush. Too fast can cause more side effects ok?

I have tired several times in the past to taper off but I flare right away and have to go back to 3 pills a day. Dr has me trying 2 wks with 2 pills and then 2 weeks with 1.

THanks!

Is Entocort safe to take. I am seventy years old. Scared to take this stuff. Also diabetes and glaucoma runs in my family. The side effects are scary. Thanks for your help.

Hi Lawrence, welcome to the forum! Entocort is a mild drug, not near the side effects as Prednisone, not even close. Diabetes can develope in high doses or long term Prednisone. Keep getting your blood work tested. I am assuming you have Crohns? It is hard to do this for some but posting your story on a my story thread and your history can give us an idea how we can help you. Glad you are here!

Thanks Jettalady. I tried one pill this morning and My blood pressure went up. I normally have low blood pressure. Going to my reg. dr. tomorrow.

Hey Jettalady. Guess I will go on the Entocort tomorrow. Can I take the assacol with it? Do you know anyone over seventy who has taken it. I am worried about it. Thanks

Hey Lawrence, yes you can take them both. Dont worry, but since you are in asacol you will know if something starts up with a side effect you will know. Entocort is mild. I know of a gentleman who was on Pentasa and went onto Entocort, far as I know he is doing good. This man is in his 80's. So not to worry. We are always here to help you and always contact your doctor if you have unusual symptoms ok. Good luck with it and hope you feel better soon!
