For those of you that know me, it is probably only from "Last One Wins" or occasionally "Word Association" as I am afraid to get out of my little comfort zone. Also, I don't have an IBD disease, my husband does (crohn's), but I do have "issues" (IBS). I noticed a trend in "Last one Wins," a lot of people there seem to have E.T., or Essential Tremor. Has anyone else seemed to have noticed this trend? It seems like about half the people there have it, either disclosed in a post, the info with their signature, or a PM. Just curious.

Okay, I'm going to ask again. How many of you IBDers also have essential tremor aka E.T.? I think there may be some connection. This has been bugging me for awhile. If you have it, you don't need to write a long history. This is more of a roll call. A simple "here" will do. I'm just curious. May show how many to my neurologist (without names, of course).

I do, in my head. (the yes-yes direction) Caffeine or low blood sugar always brings it on, but there are other times I get it as well.

I agree, thanks for answering. I will answer for my hubby. DougUte has the yes-yes direction also, as well a severe tremor in hands, some in arms, and even some in his legs.

I (SandyUte) have tremors in my arms and hands, some in my head, but I really can't tell the direction, it seems to go in circles a little. I think more no-no. I also have myoclonic jerks (arms, head will take off drastically in a big jerk. It can be funny when writing and somebody sees my arm take off and head suddenly jerk to one side.)

Sandy, what causes the myoclonic jerks? I never heard of that. I get muscle twitches that are noticable in my arms and back etc.. bIg twitches too.

Unknown, but it is in a category of ETs. It is more than just a muscle twitch, for instance, when eating, food can be thrown across the floor. Most people have them at night when trying to go to sleep. Some have them at random times (like me). Mostly when I'm writing, typing, etc., or just watching TV, etc. there is a category of epileptic myoclonic jerks, but it is just like one giant spam, and you never lose consciousness. Looking at symptoms and descriptions of both, I don't know on mine. It doesn't quite fit either, but it is suspicious that mine didn't start until after epilepsy started...

Oh that sounds fun and embarrassing like at a restaurant!!!:) Sounds like it's more related to epilepsy than ET.

I'm going to my neuro this month. Epileptic kind is much more rare, though. And Doug thinks I just am turning into an agoraphobic because I don't like to eat out too much these days. I have him bring food home. But ask me to go to a craft store or to a movie, I will wake up for those!

I call Doug my shaky old crohn. He hates that, until I remind him I am older.
:rof:

It is funny. But men hate to be associated with anything old. My Dad still looks at pictures of himself and doesn't believe that is him. He says it looks too old to be him.:)

Forgot to say that eyelid twitching is actually a form of myoclonic jerk. So are hiccups. But a lot of things can cause the eyelid twitching, including being low on some vitamins and minerals.

I didn't know that about the vitamin and minerals. I do take calcium/magnesium/zinc everyday in one pill. I know magnesium is really important for restless leg syndrome. Plus I try to eat a banana everyday.

It was my neurologist who first caught on to me being deficient in vitamin b3,b6, folic acid, and vitamin D. She thought that could have led to the Essential Tremor startup. When the Crohns was diagnosed,we finally knew why I was deficient.

In my family, it's definately in the genes. My Grandpap had it, then my Dad, then me and now my sister Sheree. The others shake but just the hands.
