I had a right colectomy 2 weeks ago due to Crohn's. I have been recuperating rather well and just had my post surgical follow up yesterday. My energy levels have been OK considering what my body has been through. However, today I am absolutely exhausted! I have not had a particularly strenuous day. Is it normal to have these days of extreme fatigue even though in days prior I have had more energy than I do now? Just curious. I want to sleep, sleep, sleep.

I would say that after this short amount of time, exhaustion is normal. However, I'd be cautious given that you've had more energy up until now. Usually recovery should be progressively feeling better.

Have you changed medications at all? Do you have any other symptoms - e.g. fever, pain, nausea?

It is normal. Give yourself a couple months to get back into the swing of things.

No fever, nausea or increased pain. I am currently not on any medications for my Crohn's, but I follow up with my GI doctor in 3 weeks. Will probably be put on something :(

The anesthetic used on my first surgery left me completely lame and exhausted for at least three weeks post op. Not saying that's the cause of your particular exhaustion, but it was for me. And don't forget, your body is busy healing and it's normal to be tired after major surgery.

Good luck!

With me, I was so poorly before surgery it took me a long time to get back to normal. I emailed my consultant about this, about 4 weeks after my surgery as I was still so exhausted and she said it was completely normal. I think maybe it depends on how illyou were before and how much your body needs to heal ?

It could be exhaustion biulding up from seeing your doctor yesterday. That in itself takes A LOT of energy after a surgery. Give it time. If you are really worried, you could always ask to have your bloods drawn to check your levels and see if any deficiency is causing your fatigue
