Has anyone else tried Bifera? It's an iron supplement that contains both heme and non-heme iron which according to the manufacturer increases absorption by 40%. The heme iron makes it a gentler form and easier on the GI.

I had IV iron infusions but my doctor now wants to try this supplement to see if I will absorb it. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with it?

Haven't tried it, is it perscription?

Take a small amount of Vit C, or drink OJ if you can tolerate it with your supplement. Vit C aids iron absorption.

It's over the counter and available in major pharmacies. The instructions say to take with or without food and that vitamin C is not necessary.

Ah, Major pharmacies in Canada don't normally carry iron supplements. Can only find it at "health" stores. Maybe time for a cross border shopping trip for me.

Going to check it out, though I live 30 mins from the border and I have a few days off next week so a trip to Syracuse may be in store.

I'm wondering if you ever tried biferra and if so, at what dosage and with what results?
My son has been taking 2 pills a day and his hemoglobin is up .6 mg/dl in 6 weeks but all of the iron studies are consistent with iron deficiency. He couldn't tolerate other iron supplements at all and he is tolerating this one though he may be having some gi issues with it. I'd love to here if you had success.

Fast forward in time and I'm trying these again. I was told iron is inflammatory. Maybe I'll do them once a week.
