I have been vegan so I hate this new experiment but I am desperate to combat the fatigue. I have begun eating some salmon and taking cod liver oil.

Anyone here take those, have they given you more energy or any other sort of health benefit? I have read all the stuff about how they help reduce inflammation but nothing on helping with fatigue and dizziness.

I have never used Cod Liver Oil. It has too much vitamin A which can cause osteoporosis.

Salmon is good for you in moderation. Like all big fish it has some Mercury in it, but it is a low amount. Wild salmon is better for you than farm raised.

Coconut Oil is packed with energy and calories and is antibacterial. It is high in saturated fat and some people believe that is not good for you, but I am not one of them. It definitely gives you an energy boost when you start using it.

I don't know if either will solve your problem, but they can't hurt. Have you ever tried digestive enzymes to get more out of the food you eat?

I was a vegetarian for 20 years (but not vegan, I'd still have dairy products and eggs occasionally). In the last two years I decided to start eating fish again, purely for health reasons... I'm not entirely happy about it, but I do it. I think it has made me feel better, but hard to separate the reasons... I've been eating more healthily around the same time, going for less fatty versions of everything and trying to eat more fruit and vegetables (crohns willing). Now I'm trying to seriously cut down on my caffeine
I've also taken cod liver oil capsules, because I'm prone to arthritis... but I just forget to take them... probably because I take enough tablets anyway, so the motivation isn't really there. I suspect they probably do work, but just another piece in the puzzle
The next big project is to get more exercise... just going out for a walk, but I realise that it's difficult overcoming the fatigue barrier. Just a bit at a time is the way I try to do it
Good luck

Flax oil is pretty much the same, just not as concentrated. It all just boils down to Omega 3 fatty acids, which is what you're trying to get from the fish. The only noticeable difference when I was taking it was that my good cholesterol levels went up. Because, well, all omega 3 fatty acid is, is a form of good cholesterol. It's a good supplement to have. It does help protect you from cardiovascular problems.

As I spoke to Hippie about in previous posts, there are minor differences in the makeup of marine based Omega 3's and Flax based, as the DHA and EPA concentrations differ. Flax though, is still a great supplement regardless... The list of Omega 3 benefits is enormous, and I think it's as important as any vitamin or mineral.
