Hey. I have a fissure that was bothering me tremendously this past week. I was practically crawling out of the bathroom, sweating in tears. Anyone else been there? Anyways, I got to thinking and when I gave birth to my son they gave me Tucks medicated pads to use. They had Witch Hazel in them. It helped a lot. I then bought a bottle of witch hazel and had it sitting around "just in case". Well, It was soooo bad that I went digging through any kind of medicine I could find, I was EVEN looking at the solarcaine (w/ latocane, that u spray on for a sunburn!! thinking ahhhh latocane (sp) but I didn't lol) I did find the bottle of witch hazel and I've been using it for a few days now, after every trip to the bathroom. It has helped ALOT! Witch Hazel can be found at Wal-Mart or anywhere like that, it's beside the peroxide and alcohol. But for anyone with a fissure (or hemorroids)...it might help ya out...

Hi Tonya,

Great idea with the witch hazel. Will give it a go next time myself!

Hope you are feeling better.

Did it sting like it was on fire at first? I had used the stuff the first time I had issues and I was a bit taken by surprise.

I didn't have that happen to me. It didn't burn hardly at all but before the next day it felt ALOT better. I would say it depends on the fissure size too, the more "open" it is, the more I'd say it burns. Mine is small.

I asked my pharmacist whether I should use a hemorrhoid type cream or what on my fissure and she suggested Neosporin with pain reliever in it because it would aid in healing and keep out bacteria... I like it so far.

BTW hemorrhoid is one of the most difficult words to spell ever... not even joking, it took me 20 times or more to spell it. And I use Firefox, so it tells me when I spell things wrong... it kinda angers me sometimes, because sometimes I mean to spell things wrong or I use a word that isn't really a word.... anyways... that was waaaayy (see firefox doesn't like that spelling) off topic.

I've been using witch hazel instead of after-shave lotion for many years because I'm allergic to most after-shaves. Witch hazel is very soothing after a shave, but it never occurred to me to use it for hemorrhoids or fissures. So I tried it last night. It does sting a bit at first, but then it's very soothing. Who'd'a thunk it? Thanks so much for sharing that, Tonya.

Hey Tonya!!!

It's so good to see you!!!! :)

Ask your doctor the next time for a script...I have a tube by prescription just for that purpose.
I forget the name but it's Procto something or other LOL.

Glad you are feeling somewhat relieved.
